Can you put in pot lights?

You could replace the tubes with equivalent led tubes. That is the plan for my kitchen.

You can get remodel cans to put in the ceiling, assuming that you can run some wiring. If that won't work, you may be able to put in LED "tubes", or you may be able to get creative with LED strips concealed a bit somehow. It's a little difficult to know exactly what all your options might be if we don't see what you're working with - you'll find that we are very photo oriented here. :)
