Celery green couch too trendy? What color accent chairs?

I'm really struggling with picking out new furniture for my living room. I'm starting with a clean slate. Getting new floors and replacing couch and 2 accent chairs. I had this vision in my head of a neutral classic couch, tufted back, exposed legs and two accent chairs that have a design but all neutral look. But putting that together is more difficult that I thought. My walls are a very light neutral and I feel the couch against the walls lack contrast.

I saw this celery color couch and really like it. It's not too bright, but not sage either. Now I'm going in a different direction - totally confused. What color accent chairs? I don't want too much green. Can I still stick with neutral/beige color chairs and some of the green in it?

Does anyone have a celery color sofa? Will I tire of it? Will it be out of style in a few years? Would love to see some green sofas and what other colors you put with it.

Is the sofa in the link below the color you're thinking of?

I'm not sure what the sofa you're considering looks like, but I think the design of the sofa could end up going out of style before the color would.
I see nothing wrong with what you're wanting to do and it sounds lovely. I think you could go with neutral chairs and a green sofa if you have a rug underneath that picks up the green.
Other option: paint the walls the color you're loving and keep the three pieces of furniture neutral.

I totally feel your pain...I am getting ready to pull to the trigger on a "tourmaline" = dark bluish green velvet sofa. I feel/fear that I am flirting with the '80s/ old lady look. (DH and I started out 30 years ago with a deep salmon sofa)

I personally like neutral colored furniture because it's easier to change my decor around it. Paint can always be changed... can you paint the walls green and get a neutral sofa?

I have the sofa in the link. I adore it. But apple green and variations on other side are my favorite. I also have an MCM house that needed a pop of color, and the style and color of this sofa did the trick. I've picked up the green in other places, so it all works well.

While the green is definitely not a neutral, it works well with all the wood tones in my house and the greenery outside (lots of floor to ceiling windows). Another typical retro color, like orange, or turquoise, wouldn't have worked as well.

Good timing on this post for me. :) I have had my heart set on a green leather sectional. We have been shopping for about 6-8 weeks. I wanted some kind of medium green. Now suddenly this weekend a 12 foot long farm work table ended up at my house (an ebay purchase) and it is painted hunter green. It is under our TV and is hopefully a great place to store blankets, DS toys, etc. Only thing is DH doesn't want to paint it, and I doubt we will get around to it anytime soon. I dont' think a green sofa will work with it, so now I think I am back to brown.

I don't know what to do!

Annz, I don't have a link with the color of the sofa. It's a Raymours-Flannigan but their website doesn't have it in the green. I have the fabric that I can take a photo of tonight and try to post. Not sure how to post photos.

Jakabedy, I love your sofa! The one I am looking at has a little more of an olive tone, but not dark. What other colors do you have in the room, i.e., chairs, rugs, etc?
I am putting in hardwood floors and will also need to get an area rug that goes with the green, plus any accent color chairs I pick out. Hope that won't be too difficult.

Boopadaboo, I can relate to your frustration! This isn't as much fun as I thought it would be.

Can someone tell me how to post jpegs?

I think celery is a great neutral. Reds, eggplants, blues and yellows will go with it. There was a Veranda French style home done by an Oklahoma architect and his wife a while back and the main color was celery. It was beautiful!

    kmarcel -

I'm not going to be much help, because I don't have a lot of accessories. I don't have a lot of decor, art, etc., in general. I don't have blinds or window dressing of any kind. I have a few kilim pillows that are multicolored, and the rug is a multicolored stripe on a black base. The main "other" color used is brown (panelled wall, T&G pine ceiling, dark beams, DH's chair, a few pillows, wooden TV table and a bookshelf). There is also a buff/creamy yellow brick fireplace and wall in the room. So the whole thing is very granola, save for the apple green.

I've had pale green couches for about 10 years, and certainly don't think of them as trendy. I think it's a good neutral. I've got mine with red Persian rugs and a burgundy accent wall. There's a big tan armchair in the same ultrasuede fabric. I've thought that for a big change the green would look nice with a vivid blue. We have a lot of black accents to punch things up, but it really goes with virtually anything.

If it were me I'd stick with your original idea and use color in your rug and accents. I had green for ten years and only enjoyed it the first four and then wished I had neutral so I had coffee colored slipcovers made and now I'm really happy.

Lovesummer, your room is really pretty. You have mixed the green and beige very nicely.

Thanks to everyone for the reassurance about the green sofa. I can't believe I might be abandoning my "beige" living room that I had planned for the past year, but I have to say I really love the green. I know I may grow tired of it in a few years, but that could happen with beige as well. The beige could also look dirty in a few years, not from that much use - living room not used much, but from my two dogs who like to rub themselves along furniture. I know I'm rationalizing.

I am going to post another thread today with a couple difference fabric choices I have picked out for 2 accent chairs. Hope I get alot of help again!

I have a celery green couch I have had about 6 years. I love it. I have a tiny house so only room for one side chair, but my chair is khacki with a floral that is basically just outlined flowers in red. I think of the green as a neutral. As far as trends, I really don't follow them and do what I like.

When I bought my sofa 8 years ago I considered the same color. I didn't choose it cause I know myself...I get tired of colors. Instead, I bought an expensive Stickly leather sofa in expresso and am tired of that (the cats also did a number on the leather). That being said, I would not hesitate even today to buy a green sofa, especially the color you are thinking of. It always seems to be in style and is easy to coordinate with. It's a very neutral green. I just got a new Pottery Barn catalogue and it seems like green is still going strong...and I just repainted from a neutral green to latte.

lovesummer, your green couch is a perfect neutral and for me would never go out of style. I could think of many, many colors to use to decorate around it. I wish now I had bought a green instead of chickening out with a beige.
