QS oak. We went with the "premium" from Scherrs. There was more flecking in it and we just loved it. I've only unpacked one of the boxes. DH had to go to a meeting tonight and he'd freak if he came home and I had wood laying all over the place in no particular order. We'll go through it tomorrow together when I come home from work and check that everything is there.

The other good news is my 36" Miele induction cooktop works. For those who are newer, I bought it and my two Miele ovens off craigslist about a year and a half ago right around the time Expo closed down. With the cooktop, I actually met the guy in a Lowes parking lot since he drove up from Miami... it really was pretty cheesy. All this time I've harbored a fear that it wouldn't work when hooked up. I saved a total of almost $6000 on the 3 appliances. I NEVER would have been able to afford them otherwise. All is well... all works great... and I boiled my first pot of water tonight to cook up some pasta. It literally came to a rolling boil in under 90 seconds. The moment I lowered the temp, it slowed down. Just amazing!

Wow! The wood is gorgeous!!! I've never seen QS white oak without a medium to dark stain. It looks great. So does everything else. Glad to hear the Miele appliances are working, too. Can't wait to see the soapstone.

It's all coming together beautifully! I love QS oak but I'm not sure I've ever seen it done on a more modern cab--love it! Also love your chandy and pulls, and can't wait to see your soapstone. How will you ever be able to concentrate at work tomorrow waiting to open all those wonderful boxes of cabs?

it'd be hard to post too many pics for us...lol! lovely cabinet fronts. did you just replace your doors/fronts to your old cabs? (I don't remember - I do remember you posting layouts etc - just not that fine detail).

desertsteph... we used IKEA boxes and hardware. The fronts were ordered from Scherrs. I was kind of worried that the fronts would look too plain and they are plain but feel so substantial (solid wood) and the natural color works so well with the floor. I kind of have a "thing" for wood in it's natural state. Originally, I thought I wanted to use red birch. It's such a glorious wood and I adore it natural but the reddish hue just didnt' work in my space.

I'm think I should go with kinda "biggish" pulls? what do you guys think about that? I think the pulls (they're sorts chunky contemporary) will really add something once done.

I've never seen QS oak in natural...it's gorgeous! I love wood in it's natural state, too. I love the flecks in and the grain--it's gonna be fabulous! The chandy is wonderful, perfect for the space. Can't wait to see more!

What did you end up with on top of your baker's table?

I ended up with the soapstone arlosmom. The marble slab I bought off craigslist just didn't sit as nicely as I would have liked and I didnt' care for a highly polished surface. The soapstone piece that Joshua brought had such beautiful veining, loved the simple edge treatment, and was a perfect fit. DH much much much preferred it to the marble. I did like the looks of both but ADORED the feel of the soapstone. I can't wait to have the rest of mine installed.

Those doors look great! I haven't gotten to the
"door" part of the project, hopefully very soon though.

It's so fun seeing everything come together.

Looks beautiful! We are thinking about QS oak from Scherrs, too. Did you know you were going to go with natural wood or did you have them come up with different samples for you?

juni.... I knew I wanted natural QS. I purchased two samples from them. One was a Lyptus natural with just a poly finish and the other was QS natural with the same finish. They did an edge treatment on the samples which I did not care for (much more routed and pointy). I'm actually gratefull that happened because I may not have been aware of how the edge profile impacts the style of the door front.

Choices look great...very excited to see how it all comes together. Keep us posted with pics!

Yay for beveled slabs - can't wait to see them installed. The wood sure is beautiful! And with soapstone?!? How are you going to care for them? Are your installers going to enhance them or will you be applying your own oil? (I just installed in my laundry room, and I don't know which most people do)

I have a SS remnant on my bakers table. We waxed it with Beeswax once about 2 weeks ago. It's since faded and I like it natural. the Monsoon has more LUSCIOUS seaglass veining. I'm going to oil it with the beeswax and then how we feel.

The table is long kinda funny story. To give you the readers digest version. I had seen it about 4 years ago. Knew it was exactly what I wanted. The table is by Lexington and very expensive. I found it discounted for around $2500 but still didn'thave the money. couple of years go by and I had just bought a different OK table off craisglist. The table I loved was no longer available... I called all over the country. I was walking through Home Goods and stop dead in my tracks. There in front of me is the table in perfect condition with the leaf extension. I had never planned on getting the chairs that match the set cause I didnt' like them and they were around $500 each. The set had a hold tag on it so I called over a manager. I asked her to please take my number in case the sale falls through. She asked me..."are you ready to pay and take it now". Me:" Well... how much is it". Salesgirl:"$400". I ripped out my debit card and she tore the HOLD tag off the table. I called DH who was home watching golfand told him he had to meet me at the store with the truck NOW. And that is the story of my table.

That gorgeous table must have been meant for you! Don't you just love Home Goods? It's about 30 min from our house, and I don't get over there as often as I'd like, but it's probably a good thing for my checking account, lol!

I'd get your doors and drawer fronts installed and then see how you feel about the wood being the star and keeping the hardware smaller or simpler or maybe being on the too plain side and wanting a little more detail or heft in the hardware.

The chairs are entirely different story. I bought them off some antique dealers site on ebay from New York. Got all them for like $125 but it cost me a total of almost $600 by the time shipping factored in. Still a deal in "chair world". They had some hideous old gold brocade fabric on them. I refinished and recoverd them myself. They are two arm chairs too. DH was so worried that they wouldn't go with the table. "How can you know" he asked? And I told him... " I just know they'll be perfect... trust me".

When they delivered them it was funny. they came at night when my husband 60's style band was practicing at night at my home. These boys have been together for over 40 years... since they were kids. Anyways, the delivery man was a Jamaican man who was not familiar with the music. So I told him to stay and have some dinner. (Had made baked ziti for the boys). "what's baked ziti" he asked. Well I sat that young man down to a big plate with home made bread.He devoured it and kept asking... "this is called baked ziti"... "seconds please"... He got up and sang some wiht the guys and was dancing. I gave a big fat tip and he left a happy kid.

DH will no longer question me on my choices at all. He'll say, I never would have picked those colors/whatever... but it looks tremendous.

lisadlu... the light is from the George Kovacs Ripple Glass collection. We have 2 pendants to match that haven't been hung yet. I believe I orderd mine through Lighting Universe. It was a huge order for whole house lighting. I also think it's carried by Bellacor, CSNlighting, Lighting Direct. They all discount and I can vouch for both LIghting Universe and Bellacor. Dealt with both and they were professional and well priced.
