Can you Pls tell me how much fabric I need for this window?

I have a window that I am going to make some simple curtain for my laundry room window.

SIZE:

53' Long

39' Wide

Question: Should I do the curtain floor length or keep it to the width of the window.

How much fabric do I need. The curtain is more decorative then for coverage as I will never been closing these curtains.

Thanks so much - I am totally lost.

Is the fabric a solid color or a print? What is the width of the fabric you are considering. Both of these factors will determine how much fabric you would need.

I am looking for a print as it will be my only print in the room.

I am not sure the width I am considering. I don't want it too bulky looking as they will be more decorative coverings then anything so I am open to hear what you think.

    Thanks

I've never seen a laundry room that had curtains to the floor. That said, most simple cotton decorator fabric is 45" wide. If that is what you use, you will need one width for each panel. Measure from the top of your rod to the bottom of the sill (if that's where it will stop)and add about 8" to that measurement. This will give you extra for a hem and a rod pocket if that's what your're using. Then multiply times 2 and you have your total yardage. If you want each panel to match exactly across, then add about another 8 inches for a large print.

Gracie thanks that was helpful - especially the part about most fabrics being 45' wide.

That was also good to hear that you had never seen any laundry rooms with floor length windows. Come to think of it...neither have I.

So I won't do floor length which is also good as it will save me money on fabric or I will take that savings and apply it to a better quality fabric.

    Thanks so much.

I think most decorator fabrics are 54 inches wide, that's the most common.

The length is top to bottom, you need to determine the finished length you need,, which would include the hem and the heading. Also determine the style you are doing and the rod needed. At first glance, you could need as much as 4 yards if you do double fullness.

As for matching the print, repeats vary a lot, some can be as long as 27 inches.
If you do one width of fabric only, split in 2, it could be skimpy.

do you have a picture of the type of curtain you plan on making ?

I'm not sure what style valance you're thinking about...but for a 39" wide window here are some ideas that only take about a yard to make:

If you want to make a gathered style valance then you'd probably want to at least double the width of your window: 39"x2 or really full..do 3x the width. If you post a pic of what style you're thinking about doing, that would make it much easier to estimate the yardage.
