We are currently working on finishing our walkout basement in fairly new construction. We are kind of stuck on what to do with the stairs. The stairwell is currently primed and for some unknown reason they primed the stairs as well so we thought we would paint them and add a runner. Here's where I need your help.

The stairs going from the main floor to upstairs have white risers and dark stained treads, so we were thinking we would either try to replicate this in the basement stairs with paint and use a runner or paint them all one color and use a runner. WWYD?

Anyone have pics of their stairs with runners?

What material is your runner made of? One I am looking at online is olefin, good or not?

Not looking to break the bank with the runner. We would be installing it ourselves.
