Hello My Name is (insert name here) I'm a CL addict

Today was my last purchase. I've been a purchaser for going on 20 years. I moved from CA to GA and had to rent the very largest rental truck in the fleet. I had to leave things behind.

I have officially ran out of room. My purchase today consisted of a cherry queen anne writing desk (purdy) $30, an old, solid, unique detailed armoire and matching end table, heavy piece, great 80's details, that will be wonderful painted, $45 set, and a collection of 35 wooden cigar boxes, I'll probably get a buzz just from sniffing them, $35 ($1 each, all wooden, some old ones from a long time collection...STEAL really.

The best part is that the PO delivered it all for me, OK, this hits a purchasers G spot to say the least. It was all done under the darkness of the night (in order to hide it from DH, who just commented today that ALL THIS STUFF IS DRIVING ME CRAZY). He came home in the middle of a switch out of our bedroom sofa table, for a big ole dresser. I plan to redo it in place and use it for my clothes storage). OK, he actually came home while I had it on the dolly half way in the front door, but I couldn't get the wheels of the dolly over the porch step...so he had to help me.

So today was my last CL purchase. Thanks for listening and welcome to my support group.

Oh, not CL so much as Goodwill. I ran there this AM (b/t 9 and 10, had to pick DD up from school 11:30). Found a battery-operated Westminster chime pendulum wall clock for $15. I would really like an old oak key-wound wall clock, but until then this will do for FR. DH walked in tonight and asked "when do you find time to go to GW when DD has dance class?" Hey, if I have an hour I'll make a hunting trip!

My condolences on the end to your CL purchases - but once you sell enough of it in your booth, will your DH let you start buying again?

Well that is the plan. I have to get it all finished so that I can put it in the booth to sell. And yes, then sell it before I will let myself buy anything else. I wish there was some kind of medicine I could be prescribed, I fear I will need it. I had a GW stop over planned for earlier today, just after I picked up a cute coffee table and 2 end table set, $15 for the 3 pieces, which are still in my car. I have something fun in mind for them, unless I post here for suggestions and you all change my mind ;)

    "today was my last purchase."

until when ? of the week ?, lol..

If you want to report here and have us monitor your restraint, I'm in.
    Will provide encouragement.

Hi my name is Sue and I dashed to Goodwill on my way home from a seminar on Friday before the blizzard. Got out just as the roads got very dicey. I knew I would be snowed in all weekend. I bought a Griswold cast iron griddle, 6 vintage etched wine glasses, a handmade pottery dish for my DS, 4 brand new linen dishtowels, and that is all I can remember!
Much of my furniture has come from CL! so I am a frequent flyer there too!

Out here in CA Goodwill and Salvation Army are waaaaay over-priced...You can find the same couches on the CL Free Stuff section that they charge over $200 for....I love CL...Those chairs I attached a link to are retail 279.00 each...You just got to know your price point for what you want...Way better that ebay because you can see the item before you hand over your cash....

My name is Becky and I too am a Craigslist Junkie. Add that to the list of every thrift store within two counties that have furniture or other things I know I can make into something better. Just seeing this threads subject line and I had to force myself from opening bookmarks and heading to Craigslist and/or the one thrift/furniture store that has their things on flickr.
when someone mentions Craigslist or thifting and secretly hope there's something to buy in those hills.

I have never purchased from CL, but have done my share of GW, StVdePaul, local thrift stores. Thank gawd I am divorced...don't have to worry about hiding things any more. I am now an Amazon.com and Southern Living @ Home addict. I've had to turn my big master closet into a dish storage warehouse...LOL. I really should just glue my bank card in my wallet, so I don't pull it out...thank goodness I don't have the number memorized.

I must say that I am intrigued by all the great CL buys you folks get.

I found a solid wood antique, 1940's dresser last week on CL for $25. Very curvy, very RH looking. It was ALL I could do not to run over & buy it. By the end of the day the listing was removed. Sigh.......saved by another person buying it first. BUT....."I" wanted it.

I LOVE Craigslist!!!!! I am sitting at a desk made by Sligh (used to belong to the seller's grandfather who was a banker- can't believe they sold it) and looking at a 6 month old leather sectional (owners purchased it for almost $4K and wife decided it didn't fit their space). My sitting room includes a Sherrill down stuffed camelback settee and Hekman pembroke table, upstairs are three bedrooms full of furniture, including my daughter's iron bed with bunny finials that still sells for more almost $1K at a local decorator shop. All purchased from Craigslist. I don't know why anyone would pay full price. My hubby is going today to pick this up for my kindergartner son's room. Glad to know so many share my passion!!!!

I said to DH "What, you don't like my clock?" I should tell him even the cheap battery-operated "Regulator" repros go for $50 at Walmart, so $15 isn't much - until I find the true antique Regulator I want for $250 or more! We needed a clock in the FR so we can tell when it's time to send the kids to bed!

He still hasn't gotten over the $25 wicker settee, but hey, the two things are *still* less than a dozen roses on Valentine's Day (OK maybe about the same)!

Rjinga admitting it is half the battle :)

I too am an addict I am constantly checking CL for my next big find and yes my husband is getting his fill but he will also admit that I have found some amazing pieces and decor items at a fraction of the cost. People come to my home and comment on how nice it is (great to hear) but if they only knew I bought a huge majority of my things online or garaging saling (my big addiction).

I have the money to buy new but I can't get myself to do it anymore as I find the quality of new items is total crap and I would rather buy something old and used knowing it is solid wood or another element of quality then to go and pay and arm and a leg for pressed wood garbage. I am looking around my LR and the only things I bought from the store is my couches and my TV...everything else was a CL or garage sale find (even my fireplace) ...and I think that rocks!

I love Craigslist. In fact, I just bought a desk for my son for $15 last night. A lot of my stuff has come from Craigslist. Has it been around for 20 years? I wish I would have known about it in the early days when I had no funiture.

Let's see, in my entire house, the DR set, MBR set, sofas and one coffee table, all the area rugs were bought new, as were WTs. *Everything* else (Hitchcock table and chairs in breakfast nook, end tables in FR, rush bench in mudroom) were bought in used furniture stores, CL (LR end tables and coffee table plus the table the TV is sitting on now, old carved oak chair, MBR wing chair and ottoman, DS's bunk beds, desk, chair and bookcase, FR bookcase, and 2 spare chairs for DR), GW (artwork in DR and FR, MBR lamps, white wood porch rocker, wicker settee, wing chair in LR, Rubbermaid storage cabinet in basement and lots of dishes, glasses, small appliances, etc.) or at auction (DD's BR set, DS's dresser, side table and blanket chest in MBR, and secretary now in LR). I'm not counting ebay (crystal and all the master bath faucets, sinks, and towel bars), Big Lot type stores (area rugs, MBR valances, LR and Ds's romans, throw pillows, FR lamps, towels, sheets) or clearance sales at JCP, HD and Lowes (bathroom tile, bathroom mirrors, PR faucet, bathroom light fixtures, LR and DR drapes and rods, MBR and DR romans). Haven't found much at garage sales except the Pfaltzgraff set (with serving pieces) I bought 20 years ago (and have added to with help from other garage sales and GW). A lot of the kids' clothes have come from thrift/consignment stores.

Rhonda, i'm a CL 'junkie' too! My garage has been chuck FULL since I moved in and brought stuff I purchased back in CA, and it didn't stop with the move!! I've had good luck in TX too~is that a bad thing? LOL

OK, yes, sign me up. Last night I bought another desk for DD's room. DH came home and said, "What are you running--a furniture store?" Sign me up. I think I need to go into rehab. So now I have two desks and three chairs for her room (OK one I picked up off the curb--does that count?) Need to post them for sale--that's still OK isn't it??

The upholstered pieces are only new furniture in this whole house (except my bed) that we bought new. Everything else has come from various second-hand sources. Thrift stores, consignment shops, classified ads, eBay, the curb, Craig's List, antique shops, estate auctions ... I love them all. All it takes is a little patience and some imagination to get some really great stuff. Paying a fraction of the 'new item' price is only part of the thrill.
