Do you have a Wipe/Cork or Magnetic board in the kitchen?

I'm looking to frame something that can be used to neatly hold the calendar (I must try not to clutter, try not to clutter. . .), school notes, etc. in our soon-to be-reno'd-kitchen. It will go on the side of the fridge cabinet, which will be built by my cabinet guy for the cabinet depth fridge to go into. The side of the cabinet is on the pass thru to the dining rm, so won't be too visible from the kitchen center.

I really love the look of this magnetic glass wipeboard - - but shipping from CA would be outrageous (like possibly 2x the cost of the item itself!) and puts it out of budget.

So I'm back to the magnetic wipe/cork board, and wondering if anyone can recommend a good one. I read that some wipeboards lose the wipeability after awhile (or the markers stain) - -so would love to know if you have one that doesn't do that, and that you're happy with! Pics would be wonderful too!!

We have just installed an old-fashioned wood framed cork bulletin board. Our hope is to stop using refrigerator magnets and to have a single place for the calendar and related items.

I mounted a large dry-erase magnetic board in the kitchen, but it has disappeared.

Hi florantha, sometimes tried and true is the best - no doubt! I may wind up with the same... Still looking at options. Thanks!

I saw a picture somewhere- houzz maybe- where a lady just printed a calendar from her computer, framed it in glass and used the glass as a dry-erase. Could be worth a try.

Like this sort of but this wasn't the specific pic I was thinking of:

I went with a memory board and a calendar held up by a 3M stickup in the kitchen. I love the idea of the framed calendar though.

We have two magnetic chalkboards, flanking the passage into our dining room. Love them! It's been three years and they are insanely useful & fun.

johnliu, funny! That's what happened to my old fridge. This one is SS so I can't clutter it up.

Beagles, I just love houzz. Very cool idea - but it would require me to fidget with it every month....too much work for me.

katsmah, love your setup! And am amazed that the 3m stick up works! Will have to get some. Thanks!

Rmkitchen, I love your chalkboards and didn't realize they are magnetic too! Did you make them or buy somewhere? Please share!

And thanks everyone for the pics-- they (you) are SO helpful!

I'm considering putting a small corkboard or whiteboard on the inside of a cabinet door on the top of a hutch. I'm trying to work out how I can make it a message center/mini office--still in the early planning stages, however.

I can speak to one issue... yes, the white boards can stain after a while. or at least mine have. I don't know if you shelled out big bucks for an expensive white board if it would follow suit.

(that being said, I can majorly clean mine with cleaners to remove stains.. but it also compounds the problem -etches the whiteboard in the process)

I put mine in the hallway outside of the kitchen down to the garage - so it's more of a management area vs "pretty" area...

I have a magnetic chalkboard, magnetic white board calendars, cork board, charging station, and mail cubbies all in my command center in my kitchen. There used to be a useless kitchen desk taking up floor space on this wall. Now our penninsula is bigger and this area is a walking aisle.

This is an old camera phone pic. Sorry for the blurriness. I should take a better pic.

laxsupermom - I am looking for something just like this! Can I ask where you found it?

carrie eileenWe built it out of 1x3's and random spare wood in the garage. The whiteboard calendars(there's 2, we like to stay a month ahead) were from Target. The cork is leftover tiles from our kitchen floor. I painted on the magnetic chalkboard right onto the wall. And the chalk/marker holder is a piece of fluted molding.

Some great ideas here! I'm just starting to look around...

Bellacucina, I really like those glass magnetic wipe boards. I found some online at crate and barrel that are quite reasonable.

I put a magnetic white board inside one of my cabinets. And I have an ikea chalkboard ready to go up once the kitchen's painted. I also really want to make something like this fabric wall pocket to hold all the neverending paperwork I tend to drown in.

I love the memory board idea, but I transferred my calendar to digital and I will never go back. I can access my calendar on my phone anywhere, which is very handy for creating new appointments on the fly (like while still at the dentist) and for remembering where I need to be and where my kids should be. A grocery list is only good when you can take it to the grocery store, which... if you write the list down on a white board, you'd have to transfer it to a piece of paper later. But the memory board is cute and fun! :o)
