Need help in mouldings paint transition - Urgent!

Need help - urgently - my contractor has to finish the job Monday.

I am stumbled upon the issue with transition of paint from the baseboard moulding to the staircase moulding. I love the color of baseboard moulding - dark. However, the staircase stringers and mouldings are painted off-white. How do I resolve the transition issue? Any ideas, please?

Shall I paint the stringers the same color as baseboard moulding (will it look too dark?), or shall I just paint the moulding above stringers? The least I want to do is to paint the baseboard moulding off-white to match the stringers. Please, help!

    That is really lovely.

I think you are fortunate in that you have dark wood and wrought iron. I would take the baseboard color up the stairs. It will not be too dark.

    Pirula,

That 'fortunate' is in fact a lot of effort (and money) I spent to realize my vision. I love the staircase. If you want to see how it was originally - here is the link. It was not so attractive, to say the least. Thank you for suggestion - the more I think, the more I want that color to replace my off-whiet stringers...

Here is a link that might be useful:

Wow, someone spent a whole lot of $$$ there! Looks good!!!
If you don't want to do it all white, then I agree with pirula in taking that tan, brown, coffee whatever color it is up the stairs. But, wont that then present you with the same issue upstairs or will you just keep going with that color? There is going to need to be some transition point, is there not?

Well, the good thing is that there will be no transition issue on the 2nd floor (main living area) - since the mouldings are this 'tan' color, and I love the combination. This is why I decided to do the 1st floor the same, to keep the look of the foyer and main living area the same. I am convinced to paint the stringers tan as well. I will report on how it will look. Tomorrow will have to talk to my contractor about repainting - see how much he will ask (sigh). The good thing though is this is the first (!) time ever I am redoing something at extra-charge. My whole house - 3 floors - was remodelled with literally no mistakes, so I guess this is the one that I will have to pay extra for. But I am happy that I will have what I like!
