Paint for Transition areas/door arches

I do not like the gray I have painted my kitchen family room to butt up against the color in my living room and my foyer. The door way to the living room is about 6' wide, and there is no wood trim, just drywall. The door to the foyer is a regular sized door way, no wood moulding again, just drywall.

Can I paint the inside of this transition area the same color I am painting the trim? (not glossy) It would almost look as if there was wood trim, right? (I'm not trying to fool anybody's eye, but I'm thinking the flow would be better).

The gray works with the foyer's color, but I still don't like seeing them touch on the corners. I'm planning a weekend warrior type of raid on the living room sometime in the near future so as to make that room work with the other colors too.

So, what do you think?
