A less expensive version of this rug?

I'm wanting to replace the rug under my kitchen table and two runners around my island with green ones. I found this wool one online

, but it is $2200+! And they don't have it in a runner size. I'd like to stick with wool, I think. I wonder if a carpet store would have something similar that I could have cut to size & bound? Anyone ever done that?

Love the rug! Where did you find it? Who makes it?

That is a beautiful rug - personally, I wouldn't put $2,200 under my kitchen table, but maybe that's just me.
You can go to carpet stores and have carpet cut and bound.
High-end stores would have some wools; I have never seen any at the box stores - maybe they have them - I just haven't seen them.

I really like it too, squirrel. Its from Rugs Direct - a Shaw Nexus, pattern Tappestry, color lichen. 100% wool. Like I say, they don't have the runner size, and I really want runners over my satillo tiles on either side of my island...so even if I did want to spend the money, its not available.

Thumb, I hear you, that's a lot of dough. However, its just DH, me & 15 year old DS, so no big messes for the most part.

Maybe I'll go visit the carpet store and see what they have that might be comparable...really like that tapestry look.

I really want the rug above, but I also like the look of sisal...but want a darker green...does anyone have experience with sisal - real, wool, or otherwise?

    kc,

I've heard that sisal is difficult to clean, and that it can be rough on your feet (which might matter if you're a shoe-less household). I've been looking at the indoor/outdoor sisal-looking rugs, but have wondered whether they would really go with our traditional non-sisal-looking rugs. Most can be hosed off, and some are made with softer materials so they're not so scratchy.

I'm pretty sure I saw a bound sisal-look online. Maybe it was Frontgate, or Ballard, Smith & Hawkens, or Grand Inroad. Could have been Horchow or Pottery Barn, too. (As you can see, I've looked all over.)

    Good luck!

Can't speak from personal experience, but I don't think sisal rugs work too well in the kitchen where there are more spills and messes. I like something washable or with a busy pattern to disguise any spills.

Have you considered something different for the runners and kitchen table? Like a patterned rug for the runners and something like your first choice for under the table. Having them all the same may look too matchy-matchy--unless you already have a lot of patterns going on in your space.

    hey meg711 -

yes, I think I would go with a wool "sisal-look" for the kitchen instead. I go barefoot in the house almost always, and I too have lots of traditional Karastan rugs. I'm finding myself, though, heading away from traditional a bit, and toward more...modern? Is this what they call "transitional?" In my living I'm thinking of going with a wall-to-wall wool sisal, and maybe float a rug of some sort on top - not a Karastan type though....but I digress.

Have you tried Homedecorators.com? They have a huge rug selection.

Yep, you can buy a piece of carpet and have it bound or serged. I had a carpet runner serged for $120.

I am thinking about finding a piece of carpet for my FR because I can't find a rug that I like.

This isn't the same rug, is it?

No, sueb20, but I wish it was my rug for that price!

I narrowed the choices on Home Decorators to green rugs, and looked through them all. Really, I should be able to pick one of those, but you know how it is when you get something in your head...

One day in the next week I'm heading to "the City" to a carpet store I've heard is very accomodating in cutting and binding rugs to size. I'm not too hopeful I'm going to find a pattern like above, but maybe something close enough. I'll report back!
