I'm getting very frustrated with my window treatments
Comments (50)Hi Tracy, I do like the sheen of the drapes you have hung and the sheer adds fun texture. My thoughts on finishing touches: I would consider trying a new furniture layout to improve the room's balance and better accommodate the new desk you have mentioned. Move the leather chair to right of fireplace and the sofa facing the fireplace; you can still use both seating options for tv viewing. Place the desk you are looking for behind the sofa for use as console/desk...look for one that folds out to allow larger work surface as needed/serving when entertaining etc for multipurpose use; or make one... I think a fun saw horse bases with thick beveled glass would be fun. If you have an extra occasional chair you could move to left of fireplace, would be perfect. I would also make some accessory edits/improvements: Replace the mantle objects with either a large concave mirror or round clock; add a couple of large bulky candlesticks to the left side of mantel and maybe green topiary and one family pic to right. Remove the objects on top of TV cabinet; replace w/ one large interesting box (you could cover one in fabric) or basket or pottery. The grouping of pics on wall might have better impact if grouped closer together or remounted in larger frame/mat. I like the coral color pop in the pillow; keep it going and try rubbing a coral/spice satin paint over your coffee table (repositioned in front of the couch facing fireplace). Lastly, look for a fun bargain rug (maybe Ralph Lauren type looking aztec like for under your coffee table to better fill the space and you are done! Have fun!...See MoreWhat color should I paint my walls?
Comments (187)Now that I look back on the picture of the credenza you're buying, I think buying some funky new hardware (i.e. knobs and pulls) in brushed satin silver or stainless steel would be a great way to make it more modern and fun. Also, how do the insides of the drawers and doors look? If they're stained in similar fashion to the outside and look attractive, perhaps you could take off the four drawers, doors, and hinges on the lower half and then filling the screws holes with wood putty in a honey color. Having open spaces in a credenza is both a modern and casual look. If the insides aren't attractive, you could paint the entire thing a soft matte black. That, with new silver-toned hardware, would look fabulous. :)...See MoreStop me before I kill -my room
Comments (89)Thank you, tjpeyton! I love my yellow jacket and wore it when I went to meet carolins (another houzzer) at the train station in Amsterdam where I was visiting with my husband last year. Carolins took a train from her area of the Netherlands, about two and a half hours away, into A'dam to meet me for a day of shopping and getting to know one another. I wore the jacket so that she could recognize me. And in fact, as we toured the city and shopped, I never saw another yellow jacket! Carolins is a delightful gal who loves photography and horses and gives wonderful answers to many design dilemmas....See More(Almost) Blank slate and ready to shop - Family room HELP!
