DD paint color help needed QUICK! Decision tomorrow!

I've been trying to mull over colors for 7 y.o DD's bedroom. Right now it's a very bright pink. She wanted to change it and initially said she wanted lavender. I think lavender's pretty, but I'm concerned about bedding (which we haven't picked yet). It can just be hard if she wants to change her bedding later on. We also toyed with the idea of a pale green. She's open to this also (makes her sound like the most agreeable kid ever!. Her bed is off white with what looks like a glaze (Ethan Allen - I forget the model, but I think they still make it). I'm worried about the green not going with that either. Anybody have any ideas? The painter said he needs to buy the paint in the morning! Yikes!

I think the green would be more flexible for future than lavender, but goodness -- how can you pick the paint w/o the bedding? Are you looking generally at PBK stuff, or similar? Or something different -- more grown up? If I were going to take a wild stab at a color, I might say Benjamin Moore Apple Blossom or Sweet Caroline? Or maybe Hancock Green or Kittery Point Green?

I'm looking to interview people who've redone their kitchens in multiple colors (say red countertop, green stove, beige sink)within the past year or two for a newspaper story. If you're interested in talking to me on the record, please contact me at june.fletcher@wsj.com.

Also look at Warren Acres, and the colors on that strip, for a warmer, beige-ier green that might go well with your DD's furniture maybe?

I agree with amsunshine...very difficult to chose paint without the bedding. But maybe if you stick with a soft shade, it will be easier to blend???

My favorite lavender was one from Behr in the Disney line. Called "Butterfly Shutter by"

I think this would be a fun color for a girl's room.

We will likely choose a PB set - she usually has two that we switch between so it should be flexible. Funny amsunshine - I was leaning toward apple blossom. We were thinking of Spring Lilac if we go lavender. Lindybarts - that's a soft pretty lavender. She had lavender as an infant in our old house. The Warren Acres is pretty but it might be a little too grown up looking.

I know you are supposed to pick the paint last but with the kids I have never done that - and now I have procrastinated!!

I have a pale barely there lavender in my laundry room. IRL it is actually a bit softer than it appears in this photo.

Please try to ignore the ugliness which is my actuall laundry room while taking a gander at the paint color, lol!

It is called "Vanished" by Glidden ( Home Depot):

I think it's soft enough to make it bit more versatile.

I would strongly recommend picking bedding first. Much harder to match fabric to paint than the other way around.

If you know you are going to be picking PBK Bedding, then I would go with the green. Their greens are pretty consistently the same from season to season, and they have some green in almost every one of their bedding sets. I do think apple blossom will pbly be fine, but if I were you, I would take another look at either chameleon or warren acres. I say this because my dds' have PBK bedding, a green checked lampshade, as well as a green stepstool from PBK. The latter two colors I mention appear to be a better match for the PBK greens -- at least for the items we have. Have fun choosing -- and post a pic when you are done! I'm a sucker for cute kids rooms!

I took another look amsunshine - they are nice (I must have been looking at a different swatch because now it doesn't look "too grown up" to me). DO you have any pics of your DD's bedroom?

My daughter's room is sw "gleeful" and I think it's the perfect green for a girls room. I have pottery barn bright pink silk drapes and it's just so pretty together. I think the gleeful would go nicely with a shade of lavendar.

    HTH,

    Beth

Gleeful looks pretty but I only have a BM fandeck and I have to choose tomorrow!

One more question - her bed is "vanilla" and the trim is white - should we leave as is or paint it to match the bed? It was so much easier before I actually thought about any of this stuff!

coleen: I do have one pic, but did my girls' bedroom primarily in blues, so don't know if it will be terribly helpful. You will see that there are the green accents in their bedding as well as the sheets. Oh, and I also have a yellow and green butterfly rug from PBK, that you can see part of in the pic.

Also, here is a link to a PBK pic, where you can see that the green is more yellow based than sagey.

My DD's bedroom in our summer place is BM Beach Plum, with an older PB Kids quilt. Here's a pic.

I think BM Cameflouge (sp?) is a pretty green.

amsunshine - love your daughters' room! I actually remember seeing on another thread. I agree - must have a yellow base rather than sage-y.

I looked at the PB link aand there was a BM "Stem Green" that they made for PB - anyone seen that one? It looks pretty bright, though. Oh, maybe Chameleon...Aargh!

Yikes! Stem Green is really intense! Here's a link to a photo of warren acres that I found online. Scroll to the bottom and it's on the bottom right corner. HTH!

Here is a pic of our 9 yo DD's unfinished room (now finished, ya think I need to update my pics?), walls are BM Fairy Tale Blue, baseboard is Stem Green, trim I can't remember (Carnation Pink maybe?). The Stem Green is bright, but not an acid green and it goes with blues, pinks and purples either light or bold, but not so well with yellows, it seems fussy as to which it yellows it plays nicely with.

sandyponder: what fun, happy colors! Do post a pic of the room finished!! I don't think stem green is the pale green coleen was looking for, but it is super cute with the rest of your colors. Updated pics, please! :-)

sandyponder - love your dd's room!! I also hope you post more pictures of the finished room.

Awww, sandyponder, I love "Fairy Tale Blue". That was the color I'd originally wanted for my younger dd's room but it just wouldn't work with her nursery bedding. I'm hoping that when she's old enough to help me pick out a "big girl room" we can use that color...I love it!

Definitely, sandyponder. What a fun space! I won't show it to my daughter, lest she change her mind again!

OK, decision made - went with California Honeydew - but color matched by BM. It's almost Warren Acres but a little brighter. Took the swatch to PBK and got the Zoe quilt. The primer is up on the wall and I only now just realized how "too much" the bright pink was in her smallish bedroom! I did this on my own and hopefully the bedding will pass muster. If not, back we go. But I think the color will be good for many different beddings.

Thank you for the compliments, and I will pass them on to DD, she picked the colors out herself and is quite enamored of her room. I am finishing up painting a thrift store desk (Costa Rica Blue with Stem Green drawers) and should have it installed this weekend. Then I'll take pics and post.

Well, this is what I get for trying to choose her bedding without her there - she saw what I got and immediately deemed it "too boring". I have to say, I kind of agree. (My bad). She's decided she wants the Claire quilt and floral sheets. I think she made a good choice (she liked the "crazy" sheets). She did love the polka dot lampshade I got for her though!

Thanks for all your help in my decision. This should last for a couple of years!
