Finally, my picture posted! Now, advice, please :)

Thanks to each and every one of you who helped me in my cluelessness of trying to post a picture!!!!! ha!

Okay, here's a picture of our favorite rug in our home. In our current home it's in our livingroom, but in our new home (which is under construction), I'd like to put this in our dining room. I need some advice. This is a concise description of the layout-- You walk in the front door:

Dining room directly to the right, only divided by a large archway (it will be open to the entryway)

Homeschool/multi-purpose room will be directly to the left, which will be divided by double french doors (so it can be closed off- not open like dining room)

If you're still standing in the entryway (which isn't much of an "entryway", really), directly in front of you will be our open floor plan- living room with kitchen off to the right-there will be a small wall dividing kitchen from living room.

What I would like to do is paint the kitchen/living area in a khaki-gray-green color (Valspar Barnwood). I really want to do our homeschool room in a warm blue-green-gray (maybe "Comfort Gray" or something liike that). These are my real questions:

What color should I paint the "entryway"? A lighter shade of the living/kitchen area?

I really want to do a chocolate brown somewhere in these areas- would it work to do it in the dining room? Would choco brown clash with my rug?

What would red look like in the dining room? Too much red?

I'm open to suggestions!!!!!!!!!

Lovely rug -- I do believe that chocolate brown would clash with the rug ..... I like your idea of doing the entryway in a paler version of the kitchen color ....

As for the dining room -- perhaps a silvery gray? What color are your dishes? Or do you have any fabrics in mind for the dining room?

The only "displayable" dishes (ha! Don't think that's a word!)are our china that we accumulated as wedding gifts. The china is white w/white pearl and silver accents. I have large crystal pieces and that's it!

There appears to be kind of a taupe brown color in the large center medalliion areas of the rug. I think that might be a very sophisticated color for the DR. Brushed nickel accents in the room, a chandy in the brushed nickel with shades in the red. Of course, your furniture will play into the color choice, as will the flooring color.

As for the entry, you say it isn't really much of an entry space, and part of it will be closed in when the doors to the home schooling space are closed. I think I would be inclined to do a soft cream color, perhaps like the one in the rug, for the entry.

But that may also be dependent on the trim in the entry area, the flooring, etc. More specific details about the space would help.

I don't see how that poor rug will work at all in your lovely new home, and think you really need to send it to me --

But if you insist on keeping it, I think what you need is the 'Pallette Generator' --
a fabulous website that generates a paint pallette from a photograph!

I'd agree witl Les about pulling the grey-taupe for one room -- either the entry or dining room. Such a sophisticated color! And maybe the coral or light coral for the other.

What great ideas you all have! You all are right-- I had my heart set on doing a choco brown room, but I don't think the dining room will work for that. I agree that a grey-taupe will work beautifully! Any particular paint color ideas? In the meantime, I will check ou the Pallette Generator-- thanks, Sweeby!!!!!!!!!

And les, I'm planning to do the trim throughout our house in a creamy, warm white. Any new ideas for the entryway, now that you know trim color? Should I just keep it a shade lighter than the gray-green-khaki color I'll have in the kitchen & living area?

I agree with Sweeby, that a pale coral would be lovely, and I would do that in the entry. I think you want that space to feel welcoming and warm, and the coral would perhaps be a better choice for that than a grey-green-khaki color.
