I did my good deed for the day

Late afternoon I get a phone call from my son who says he found a kitten. .I told him I'm up to my ears in cats and fleas right now but he said he thought it was dying. Last night a wailing sound woke him three times but he couldn't tell where it was coming from. This morning a tiny kitten was crying in the rain. Son put him on the porch out of the rain and cold. Yes, even though we are in a drought and it was recently 100, last night it was 56 and raining. He thought the mother would find it. When he came home the kitten was there soaking wet and shivering. He brought him in the house and called me since he was packing to leave in a few hours on a mountain biking trip to Utah..I told him to bring it here which he did 30 minutes later. I wrapped the kitten who was silent now in a fluffy towel, and opened a can of Fancy feast chicken and egg souffle. It wasn't very runny ... I WAS going to use a syringe. But I scooped it out with a straw and fed the kitten. He ate over a tablespoon and I thought that was enough because he had never had food before. I'd guess he was around 4 weeks old. A tiny light grey w/ a little tiger marking. I took him to my vet hoping they could help. They tried calling rescue groups and couldn't get anyone. So I then drove in a blinding rain to Petsmart where a rescue group is supposed to have people there every evening between 6-8 but the pet door was locked and no one was there. The assistant manager and a teenager worker came up and began oohing over the kitten. I explained the situation and they tried to call some groups, when the teen said..'I'll take him'. The manager told her to call her mother which she did and said it was okay if she'd keep the kitten in her room for now. The manager who was quite young herself..early 20's, said it was okay because the mom had adopted two cats from the rescue group before and they loved animals. I figured as much since you probably wouldn't work there if you didn't. I have the girl's name and phone number and email address . We went back to the kitten formula and she bought some and a bottle and some wet kitten food and a lovely soft chamois like cat bed. She named him Jacob and I left happy that at least one cat probably had a good chance at a nice life. Not so for many of the others including maybe the siblings of this one. My son lives in a stone bungalow which was the summer home of the rich who came there for the summer beside the golf course in the 1920's. Unfortunately the golf course is now an apartment complex so he's always dealing with stray cats and the apt. people moving and leaving cats behind. My Henry came from there. I took him and his brother Buster from their mother and Buster was adopted. This probably is Henry's brother , and my son thinks there are three more kittens but none to be seen. Kitten looked very healthy with clear eyes, no ear mites but I did see a flea on it's neck. He's so little , he can be combed flea free. I told her not to use any flea stuff for months but she knew that. I'm hoping for the best for little Jacob. He's a sweetie.
