Mini-office makeover...new paint and a cheapie desk!

Just wanted to share pictures of our office/homeschool room. We painted BM Decatur Buff on the walls (over our previous orange/gold color) and fashioned a "desk" out of a countertop.

We wanted an L-shaped desk to fit this 7ft wall but couldn't afford a huge piece of quality furniture right now, so...I went snooping around a cabinet shop who had some discounted laminate countertops and we found one to fit our space. The shop cut it to our exact measurements and DH installed it with some wall brackets and spindle legs that we painted to match the walls.

Here's the wall color at night...love how rich it looks.

We have a computer table and a cabinet for school supplies on the other side of the room. I'm so excited about how it's turning out!

Wonderful job. I love how warm the room looks! I also love the paint color and the floor you have installed. What wood species and what width is the hardwood floors? Maybe after my busy season, I will try out the BM Decator Buff on my walls in my home office.

What a great economical solution! The 'L' shape is much more functional than a straight desk would have been.

The open area beneath the desk can even fit free standing storage drawers to increase the function of the desk, plastic ones from the dollar store or maybe some pretty wicker ones:

lynn, the boxes of hardwood were labeled "red cumaru" but I don't know if that's correct. We had several problems with the NC company we ordered from and (while we think the floors are pretty) they're not the Brazilian Teak we ordered.

dilly, I can't wait to add some storage containers under the desk but we have a 17month old right now and she would have too much fun pulling everything out of the drawers. I think by the end of summer I may be able to get away with some storage under there. I love the picture of the wicker drawers...where did you find that?

Fairytalebaby, Thanks for letting me know that the floors were supposed to be Brazilian Teak. They may not have ben what you wanted but the end result is they are visually perfect for your home office.
