What color crown molding & trim?

I am redoing our family/home office and have decided to redo all of the trim, window casings and I am going to put up crown molding. Okay, so here is my dilemma:

I have white recessed lighting which cannot be painted, so I will have to leave the ceiling white, but I really want to do the windows casings, trim and crown molding in a cream color. Here is a link to the drapes I have purchased. They are wheat and cocoa colored so I thought that cream would be best.

Sorry so drawn out, but my question is: is the cream crown molding against a white ceiling going to look terrible? I am afraid that it will, but I am not sure that white goes with the drapes.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!!

I think it will look fine. All neutrals look good together. Also, white ceilings are so expected that they don't tend to make themselves part of the design equation.

It will look fine. It's always nice to have a contrast from the ceiling and crown molding. Do you have a color in mind? I love BM White Dove and Ivory White which is a little creamier.

    Good luck!

Why can't you paint your recessed ceiling light rings? I think cream against white would be rather safe and uninteresting. The walls are white, the ceiling is white and the trim is cream?

The insides of the recessed lights are white so I figured that painting the rings would be tacky and clash because the insides would still be white. The ceiling is white, trim cream and walls will be a light tan/mushroom brown color, something to complement the drapes.

I think you should paint your crown molding and trim a dark brown and get that wow look.

Paint the walls and ceiling the same color; do the molding any color you want - cream is ok. You can paint the light rings and the cans, too, if you wish). They will not be tacky if properly painted.

    Hi,
I'm not very good at color combos but I can tell you that Recessed lighting can be painted to match something other than a white ceiling.
I have several types of DIY recessed lights (canned lights, pot lights, acne ceiling, whatever they call them now. lol) in our home, all of them had to be painted because we couldn't afford anything but the standard, cheapie, white trims.
Here's a pic of the latest trim around the shower light. It was originally white, but now is a pretty good facsimile of ORB to match the other accessories in our DIY tiny master bathroom.
This is the only pic of light trim I have on this computer but we've painted all the trims to our recessed lights to either match the ceiling color in the room or to match other accessories in the room.
    Where there's a will....... :)

Please excuse the messy paint job... we were still trying out color. :)

I have the standard cheapie white trims because I prefer it to any colored or metal look. They are all white throughout the house and because they are properly placed, are an added decorative item. I think light trims that are painted colors to match ceilings, other than white, look cheap.
