Sunburst mirrors---- traditional?

Hi all! I don't know how to decorate this wall (pic below), then I saw a picture on a magazine - sunburst mirrors, different sizes/styles on the living room wall above the sofa, so I was thinking "hmmmm, this might work..."

So, are sunburst mirrors traditional, or transitional? My style is mainly traditional, I think;)

I'm still looking for other wall decor coz when I looked on-line, sunburst mirrors are expensive! And with that size of wall, I need quite a few. Suggestions welcome and appreciated.

thanks

Great minds must think alike. I don't know if it was the same photo or not, but I saw a room on the internet that had beautiful sunburst mirrors and thought they'd be perfect for our huge wall in our entry hall.

btw, if you think the new sunburst mirrors are expensive, you should see the prices on the antique sunburst mirrors! We'd need to spend about $30,000-$50,000 to fill our spaces.

As for your question, I think they're traditional. Depends on the syle and finish because there are contemporary sunbursts out there, too. If you don't want to do sunburst mirrors, you can do a collection of beautifully framed mirrors in the same or different finishes.

WoW that looks great! I think I would start haunting thrift stores and resale shops, they have a bit of "retro" flair don't they? I remember them from the seventies.

    Meg, that's the one!
Thanks for your input, Meg. Obviously, I'll stick with the cheaper mirrors:) Will scour craigslist, e-bay and local store.

I found a new sunburst at a website and one reviewer said that when she received it, it was very cheap looking so she returned it. You would not have been able to tell from the photo so be careful.

rich69, I have recently purchased two sunburst mirrors.
I plan to surround the one in the second photo with photos from travels, etc.

I believe they are both still available through the store I purchased them from if you are interested.

Ohhh, demifloyd, those are gorgeous! Where did you get them? I hope I can afford it. Or maybe, I need to work 3 days a week instead of two to be able to get those...I'm such a slacker...

Have you checked Pier 1? I saw this one at Target.com (it's got free shipping, too!)

Here is a link that might be useful:

You only work two days a week?! WOW. That is the kind of job I need : )

LOVE that picture too. It doesn't surprise me that Demifloyd has them in her house. She always has such nice taste.

I probably wouldn't use mirrors on that wall...you already have one on the wall under the staircase, a quite nice one, looks like it's oval with a deep walnut frame. So if you keep that one, no.

I like family photos in a space like you have. You can always fill it in with other art...if you're looking for something inexpensive check out Kirklands.

Paint chips, I agree, demifloyd has a great taste. Saw her home pics online.
Yes, I work twice a week, but it's a 12 hour shift and it's at night. Works out well in picking up kids from school, etc.

Mpwdmom, that round mirror is from Kirklands, he-he:)

If you are willing to think beyond the starburst shape....

Lowes and HD each have several different styles and sizes of ceiling medalions. You could buy 1 of each style and add your own mirrors to the empty center area. Paint them w/ gold craft paint and/or do a dry-brush finish w/ black in order to antique faux finishes them. There are seveal shades of gold paints out there, so they could all be the same or have a few that are different.

The round shapes could act as a nice continuation of the mirror at the base of the stairs.
