last phase patio & bbq!!!

Hi all,

Well it's been a long time since I posted. We started the last phase of our backyard. The outdoor living space and BBQ island. The planning and engineering have been a pain but it's nice to see that we are in the home stretch.

Here are some pictures if interested.

Looks like its going to be awesome. We added an outdoor kitchen last year and we want to add a fire pit this year. Our problem is space, we dont have it....your set up is perfect...I love the fireplace. When is it expected to be finished?

Very nice! Looks like the angled wall went away between the design and construction phases, eh? I envy you people that can actually cook and eat outdoors, it's too blazing hot, cold or buggy here to do that more than a few evenings a year!

tresw where are you, we are in Palm Harbor. We have lived here for 20 months and until this January its been so stinkin hot. BUT, the area looks nice....it makes for a pretty scenery while I sit in the a/c family room sipping my margarita:) In November our nights finally cooled off and we have enjoyed the outdoor area. The summers are brutal. We tried to have a labor day party, we were sweltering! It ended up inside! Our area is screened in so bugs are not the problem. We finished our remodel in August so we will see what next summer brings. I did buy an outdoor havana style pedistal fan to use in addition to our decorative palm leaf ceiling fan (which by the way, moves little to no air). I was told later, they are really for decoration:(

I hope to be finished by March. Yes the angle at the fireplace went away during construction. It took up to much space.Other changes include puckercrete pilaster caps, hearth cap and mantle poured in place to match the pool deck.

Love the idea and photos... I would love to have that kind of roof !! ?? clay roof tiles ?? not sure how they would stand up to our cold winters here in NJ. I wonder if they make good fakes ?? lol
What are your pillars made of? is it a pre cast concrete or a fiberglass ??

I am currently in the waiting phase for my pool, everything is done except for the plaster and patio/coping... I can't wait to be at the "pool house" phase.. there's so much creativity to be had !

    Good luck !

The roof tiles look like clay they are actually a Concrete product. Here is the MFG website
    EAGLE ROOF.

The pillars base is concrete block with stone veneer. The actual column is fiberglass composite. The columns actually look like stone. I bought them from Pacific Columns
    here is their site
    PACIFIC COLUMNS.

gk5040, we're in north Central Texas (just east of Dallas). I can relate to your brutal summers :-) Our pool is about 75% complete, so this will be our first summer with it. I suspect that just having that body of water there will raise the humidity and make the backyard feel a bit cooler, so that will hopefully help. We'll no doubt be spending more time out there just because the pool is there too. I may install a mid-pressure misting system as well. I have a cheapo low pressure system out there now, it helps but we don't use it much because it gets everything wet (droplets too big).

jdegid, are you doing polished or flamed granite on the countertops? Seems like dark polished granite would be a bear to keep clean because it shows dust so much.

    tresw,

The counter tops in the renderings were put in there by my 3d guy. Were installing porcelain tile. Earth tones with dark grout.

    sorry missed one

Great pictures, that's going to look fantastic! I'm familiar with those concrete tiles, they are MUCH more durable than clay tile and look nearly identical.

Here are the updated pics as of this morning.

Mason will return Monday to finsih the stone around the fireplace.

Today, Sub for Concrete stain and sealing is there. I am using the color pallet from the BBQ island tile (which happens to be sitting on the pilaster above) for the concrete stain. It should be done by Friday.

Saturday the Stucco crew returns for final color coat.

Monday the BBQ island sub will begin installation and the Mason returns to finsh up stone work and concrete acid wash the hearth and pilasters.

    Almost Done.....

That stonework looks fantastic!! Is it drystacked or are the mortar joints just raked really deep?

Sorry for the delay. Here are the updated pics as of this morning.

Stucco is colored. Patio deck is stained and sealed. 4" can light trim is installed. BBQ island installation today! Mason should be back today or tomorrow to finish the stone work around the fireplace.

    ALMOST DONE!!!

I'm throwing around the idea to stain the mantle, hearth, pilasters and spa cap the same color just to tie everything together. any input on that idea??

It's looking great! I think the precast looks nice in its natural color, it plays nicely against the stone. If you try to stain it you probably won't get consistent results. It's tough to stain concrete without it looking "splotchy", you really have to get it cast in the color you want to get uniform results.

The BBQ area is kind of small....Any reason why you didn't make it bigger...:)

Geez, it is bigger then my kitchen.

Enjoy, it looks fabulous!!! I hope you have lots of big parties for many years to come.

    Jdegid,

    Your backyard is wonderful!

Can you please tell me the name of the landscaping lights you have in your beds next to the decking?

I really like the size and shape (bell).

    Thanks so much

It really is beautiful!! I see those pics are almost a month old, have they finished everything up yet? Would love to see it after you get the column enclosures on!

sorry I thought I posted new pics weird....

Here are some updated pictures "beginning of column installation".

they are not completely installed yet. I still need to plumb and square them them up. The column supplier forgot to send the cap to the column on the far left. I'm waiting for it to finish up. I'm throwing around the idea of getting them faux painted to look like marble.

I think I'd be inclined to paint them the color of your house, or a complimentary color.

My first though was match the color of my Fascia board.
