Are These Trash or Treasure?

My mother has been going through her things and gave me a couple boxes of junk. Inside I found this bundle of flowers. Normally I am not a silk flower fan, but these are at least 30 years, perhaps 40 years old, handmade from silk ribbon. The texture is so incredible.

(By the way, none of them are "fluffed" in the pictures, just straight from the box.)

I clipped off a couple and put them in some footed glasses, perhaps used bedside or sparing used on accent tables? If I did use them, I think they look best this way as they somehow lose their effect in a bundle. There was also a piece of a bridal bouquet, but I can't think of a practical use for it. The flowers in the bouquet are made from different ribbon and with another technique so they don't have the luminescence of the rest.

*Honestly* (Really!) are these trash or treasure?

Oh, I think they are absolutely lovely! (But if you wind up being convinced they're trash, I would be happy to take them off your hands! ;-))

I really like them displayed in the footed cups!

The ones in the top picture are lovely, I like them better than the bridal bouquet. And very pretty in the footed cups. I say : Treasure.

Not trash for sure! So were they your Moms bridal bouquet? definitely a treasure no matter what the age.

I like them! One thing you can do is find a decorative box, square or rectangle. About an inch or so deep. Then stand the flowers in the box where only the flower tops show and not the stems. This way you can sit the box on an accent table and enjoy all the flowers at once. :)

What gorgeous flowers and what a find!!! The beautiful silk ribbon looks to me to have hand rolled edges and are beautifully made. Look how meticulously the stem is attached to each blossom--very nice details. They remind me of the flowers milliners used to make in the shops to attach to hats and dresses many years ago. Please put them to good use; they are just too lovely to trash.

Perhaps the bouquet could be framed in a shadow box...just a thought.

    Treasure. What a wonderful find!!!

It is difficult to tell when something comes from the era of macramé hanging baskets. I am so glad that everyone thinks they are a treasure. The colors are so wonderful in person.

Cooper, I am sure what the bouquet was from. When she gets back from vacation I will have to be sure to ask about that one. She had live so I know they weren't for her wedding.

I really like the box idea, but I am going to have to find a place for it first. I have a couple of shadow boxes of my treasures, like the first roses HE sent me, so my walls are a bit boxed out. Setting them IN a box is a wonderful idea. Thanks, Oakley for that one!

They might be hand rolled, but I don't know. There is a roll to it, but not like any made-in-China ribbon I have ever seen. The edges have a thread-like wire in them that the ribbon wraps around.

Goody! Goody! I deserve it for the day it took me to sort through those old boxes. : D No other treasures I am afraid.

They are a treasure. My daughter has something like it on her buffet in her DR.
She has them in a low lennox fruit bowl I gave her. All you see is the flowers, not the stems...just another idea for you. Joann

I would shadow box frame that white bouquet. How lovely!!! Someone spent a lot of time making these gorgeous silk flowers. Now I want some.

Guess what, flower corsages of faux silk are going to be an item in the very near future and you might want to keep them to build your own. :-) What's prettier with a brown and white herringbbone tweed jacket in an equestrian style with a beautiful floppy floral corsage of the most delicate charmeus.

What an awesome idea! Corsages would be so much fun to make and wear. Thanks, Particia As always, you are so chic! : )

You guys are amazing. There is such creativity here. I wasn't sure what to think and now I am so excited about the prospects.
