cost of privacy fencing

I found a post from 2007 about questions to ask when getting estimates for privacy fencing. Can anyone give me an idea about what it might cost by the yard to get fencing installed? I priced 8-foot fencing panels at home depot and couldn't believe how much it cost. I"m afraid to find out how much it would be to get our yard fenced. I need an estimate so that I know how long I'm going to have to save for this and I don't want to waste fencing contractor's time by having them come out when I'm not going to get it done for awhile. Anyway have any idea? I would appreciate it!

Where do you live? I was quoted everything from $22-40/linear foot for 6' cedar in Oregon...wound up doing it myself at a total cost of about $10/foot.

It's really not that hard if you can get a couple strong guys to alternate digging the fence posts and you take your time getting them straight and plumb. The stringers and boards are easy to do.

I thought the prebuilt stuff looked terrible in terms of quality.

Here is St. Louis, 5' high cedar fence privacy, 4x4 posts set in concrete, 2x4 upper and lower trim board with 1/4 trim board on opposite side, and 2x6 top cap.. $30 a foot, included two gates.

agree with jim24, premade panels do not look that good in quality, at least at the big box stores.
