I have seen this - its either in Durasupreme's or Shiloh's cabinet lines. Can't recall which one but I know its one of those two

Darn. Didn't see them. All of these cabinet sites show the primary door style but not specifics of how a bank of drawers woud look. (Some have galleries.)

I think almost every cab. manuf. has these; they are usually on the accessory or moulding pages of the catalogue with the stemware racks and plate rails. They are loose drawers- no drawer guides, so they come out freely. If you wanted longer drawers with guides, they would be terrifically more expensive because of the labor factor.

Omega custom has them (I know because I had a choice of the "look" or of the actual drawers). I went with a six x six drawer bank in the bathroom (two high by three wide). The're actually really handy. Nut I did have the option of having the two layers look like six drawers and actually just be two (ie fake apothacary).

Kelly - Of the 2 I am about 80% sure it was the Durasupreme cabinet salesperson who showed them to us. But alas, I don't have pics of them since we went with another cabinet manufacturer

evil chicken, heh heh .....NOT! I just realized that my demo started one year ago. (Didn't we start at the same time?) Oh yes, I am done.

So here is my idea. I want a apothecary chest for my family room and can't find one fits. I was thinking of using kitchen/bathroom drawers in black or distressed black. Add some cute bun feet and maybe a carrara (sp?) top and some fun hardware? I don't know. Do you think it will work?

I think you have a great plan. I'd say get the unfinshed or paint grade ones since you are adding feet you can just paint it all the same color and also save some money while at it.

I had the same thought lyfia but searched and searched the internet for an unfinished piece but came up with squat. The other thought is just to settle for a standard bookcase add the feet and top. (I liked the idea of drawers :(

You could just get a drawer stack of the appropriate dimensions and have a front made for it, or make it yourself, since you want it black you won't have to try to match any other cab faces...

Somehow I remembered that this company used to sell them in their catalog. I'm remembering back 30 years! Seems they still do (see link)

Casey, you are so sweet to find that (BTW, nice memory there.) I have found similar products like that but they are never the right size or color for my space. That is why I was trying a different route.

I have this idea in my head and want to get close to it. Apparently, since my TKO has finally cleared up I need something else to drive me crazy.

Thanks for the site, cotehele. That is what I am looking for but I want one much bigger. I did see some file drawers that looked good. I could buy three and set them side by side. If they were painted black, no one would know.

Any competent wood worker or trim guy should be able to turn a standard chest into something that looks like those cabinets. It really shouldn't even cost that much.

You could even get a bunch of square black picture frames and glue or trim-nail them to the face of the cabinet you pick, then put drawer pulls in the center of each false front.

Hmm if you used raenjapan's idea with the frames IKEA has some unfinished ones you could all put together. there are a few different styles too.

raenjapan, I think you are right about a trim guy or cabinet guy doing it. I might start looking for a piece on Craig's list. I LOVE your idea on the false fronts. I am not totally unhandy. I actually own a miter saw.

And actually, since the "look" could be easily acomplished by a cabinet maker with a router...why not have one made by a cabinet person???? You could get exactly what you want fit to the right size :)

That would look cool in your space. I love the idea. Frankly the little drawers are great for just a few things, (like cd's andin the bathroom for meds etc) but if you had one made you could have a few real drawers and a few larger ones, even some in file debth. You might be able to market this LOL

We have a great end table that is a piece of a library card catalog. My mom got the top piece with the lovely molding and finish (picture how high a bank of card files is - no one ever put anything on top), I got the bottom half, with a separate piece that held the sliding "cutting boards", the card file itself, and the table that everything stood on. I added a piece of soapstone to the top and voila - fabulous end table. Holds coasters, dog leashes and when the kids were little, hot wheels cars and old bits of cookies.

Might find one online..no libraries use them anymore.
