grrrr!!!! ot

This is not a "kitchen" issue, but this is just another straw trying to break the camel's back.

I could not find the stencil I carefully ordered and put away weeks ago. So, I went and ordered one I may like even better. So, when it arrived in today's mail, I was psyched to get going on it so we can move out of our bsmt and up into or bedroom.

Needless to say by now, they sent the wrong pattern! The paperwork and picture all say that I ordered the pattern I intended, but they sent me a similar but different one.

Someone keeps yanking away the football at the last minute and I am starting to feel beaten..... Can't just one thing go as planned?

In the past week:

1. our kitchen and den floors were destroyed, need full replacement

2. sink had a leak, 2 tries to fix (thankfully, working now)

3. cord on island pendant too short - ordered extension

4. mounting kit missing from dw - ordered parts

5. wrong size kitchen faucet - ordered smaller "arm" for it

6. vanity uninstalled to find mystery leak - turned out it was the caulk for family tub that failed, now have to re-caulk at bad time

7. washer/dryer disconnected and brought upstairs to new location. Plugs installed are wrong kind.

8. did not notice stove height was too low before okaying venthood height

9. 2 parts of our counters came in wrong size (flanking stove on island) - waiting for new ones

  1. tried to notify propane company to tell them we are ready for install, yesterday: their phone not working or taking messages. Today: left message.
  2. carpet guys came with samples after seeing our bedroom and saying they understood the color we wanted. Brought wrong shades/samples - will give them another chance to come back.

I just want this to end.... there is still so much to do.

First one: my choice {{!gwi}}

second one: what they sent {{!gwi}}

I am tempted to just use #2 as that was one of the finalists, but will I regret that? I emailed dh to ask which he liked.... Either one will be done on a light gray wall with dark purple for the stencil, if that makes any difference.

Ooooh, I love the first one! The second one is a little less sophisticated to my eye. Your color combo sounds really nice, I would send it back and get what you ordered.

Did you order from cuttingedgestencils.com? I've been looking there and have plans to order some as well. I've never stenciled before. Let us know how it works out!

dinalo... you are our own GW Charlie Brown! Sorry for all your frustrations. At least your moving, even if it's backwards. There's NOTHING going on here.

FWIW... I like the 1st pattern better.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Everyone else's reno projects have proceeded as smoothly as silk. So far, my renovations have been seamless, under budget, and almost tedious, the way everything has been executed exactly as I planned and yet in a way that exceeds my expectations. In fact, just the other day, I was considering demoing my whole house and starting over, just so I can re-experience the blissful....

Oops! Sorry, gotta go. Time for my Haldol.

    hi dianalo...

sorry for your troubles... and that i'm not as funny as marcolo!

i'd get the correct stencil, the one you chose. you have good taste.

take a breather... this going-wrong stuff is beyond your control. i'm sure you're a very competent person, which is why these mess-ups are just crazy-making.

hang in there... you'll make it. :)

I so feel your pain my last straw broke this morning, twice.

I'm still dealing with the Sears fiasco I posted about last month, still getting a runaround weeks after I thought we were done with them a few times. And my beautiful glass backsplash hacked by the tiler, plus several other disappointments in our build.

I really like both of the stencils but if you were planning on the first one it is a different look with the second one than your original plan. Love the colors you've chosen. I agree with iron cook then when you are a competent person these screw-ups out of your control are maddening. Just think soon you'll all be done and have a beautiful home, hugs.

In my heart, I know I want #1, but it is keeping us from moving out of the bsmt. My husband is not very patient to start with and at this point, I am the calm one (so you can just imagine how bad off he must be, lol).
I can't believe this will add more time to the stay in our bsmt. They had better send out right away to me and not wait for the return. They are already inconveniencing me by having sent the wrong one.
Sharon - it was from cuttingedgestencils. I have not spoken to anyone, but left a phone message and email. Normally, a delayed stencil would be a minor issue, but it is our "get out of jail" card and every day counts. They will probably think I am high strung for being in such a rush, but if they were in my shoes, they'd drive it here themselves (NJ to NY). Even if they overnight it, I will have lost 2 evenings to work on it (tonight and tomorrow).
It is funny, but I sent dh both pix. He said both are cool but he is guessing that I like the first one and knows I will end up waiting for it. I don't know if that means he likes it better or just knows me so well.
I was hoping to have a little up on the wall by the time he comes home from parent-teacher night.
The only bright side, is our sink works and I received the induction burner I ordered as an ebay "daily deal" a few days ago, so I was able to use a pot for the first time since 12/5/10. I got it in case there is a problem with our stove when it finally gets connected. I think with our rn of luck, it was the prudent thing to do ;)

Florantha - I had not considered backwards to be a
"direction" so you gave me food for thoght ;)

Marcolo - you had me chuckling the whole way.

It seems like #1 is the clear choice among GWers and that just reinforces how much I like it. I wanted a sophisticated look and something with a little edge. The other is nice, but more normal.

BTW - when I was opening my stencil package, my ds let his friend use my laptop. My "u" now sticks horribly and make typing a chore. I have to hit it crazy hard to make it appear. I think I need some Calgon, but that will be after dh comes home for dinner and the boys are in bed....

Dianalo, just a one word response to your post:

    AMEN!

Son's friend probably got some crumbs down into the keyboard, I've never had a laptop so I don't know if you can turn it upside down and shake the offending crumbs out like you can with a PC keyboard (but it may be worth a try).

Esp. with the color palette you've chosen I think stencil #1 will look awesome.

Hey, what's a couple of more nights in the cellar? You will end up with what you want. You will have that stencil up for a long time, and if you settle, you might always regret rushing it.

    The end will come soon.

Hang in there. Get in touch with the company, and tell them since they screwed it up, you want the stencil overnighted. They can do that.

    Best of luck, remain calm.

I agree that stencil number one is nicer, but I don't think anyone would want to proceed "backwards"!!! :o) It's really crummy... all those things going wrong. A handful of them wouldn't be so bad, but they seem to be piling up. I hope that this is the end of the problems and the beginning of smooth sailing.

Number 1-- me likeey. I may have missed something, but can't you move up from the dark and use the stencil after the fact? How is a little paint stippled on a wall or two holding you up?

I'm going to sound like a booze pusher again, but you really should take up drinking. Get drunk and let your troubles go for the night. ;)

Update: I spoke to a lady from customedgestencils.com this a.m. and they are rushing my pattern to me. They even told me to keep the pattern they sent by mistake as a courtesy.
Luckily, they are in NJ, so it should get to me in NY fairly quickly. Their patterns are quite pretty and I fully expect to order one for our screened in porch's floor if I don't use the one I received by accident. I had wanted one they have with very simple leaves for that and the one they sent is more ornate, but also very nice. Our porch floor will be stained concrete in a medium green and I want to stencil a darker green on it so to better hide any imperfections or specks of debris since that is our way in and out to the yard and it won't be swept every hour on the hour, lol....

Breezy - we are getting new carpet and our furniture will block part of the stencil pattern in 2 parts of the walls, so I want to get finished with the paint before daring to put brand new carpeting in under where I will be painting. I also don't want to work around furniture even if it were pulled away from the wall or use drop cloths.
I guess I can find a way to keep dh happy that we are stuck together in the bsmt still. The boys moved up to their room about a week ago, so we have had some privacy... wink, wink..

dianalo, good news : ). And the porch floor plan sounds wonderful, can't wait to see pictures. It will all be beautiful when it's done -- just keep thinking of that!

    dianalo,

You need a little more "wink" to get you through
    these charlie brown days.

Thinking of you and knowing one day soon you'll be
    in your new space.

I do try to keep thinking of the outcome, but I am tired and cranky lately (guess what time it is, lol) and bad stuff keeps happening.
I got home from work today and went to the bathroom, I heard a splash and realized my cell fell into the toilet (luckily before anything else had....).... I am not sure if it is done for. It worked afterward, but then was touch and go for a few hours. It seems almost ok now, but who knows for sure.... I would just like a day where things go normally. I don't need major victories, but our heat to work or the right stencil to arrive, the washer and dryer to function, our stove to be connected/working, motion detector lights to detect instead of staying on all the time.... would really cheer me up.
It is like the end of a pregnancy. You are excited it will be over soon, but it seems like forever since you started and when it goes late, you feel ready to explode! Although, at least when pregnant, I did not have to worry what time of the month it was. I think that should happen during a reno too (if the world were fair). It certainly should not happen 4 times since living cramped in the bsmt!
Sorry if that is tmi to the guys here, but when your reno day is rough, just imagine it could be worse if you were one of us!
I do appreciate the chance to vent and the supportive voices here. I forget how nice it looks sometimes because I keep seeing the stuff left to be done and know what is looking good may not be functioning yet (like our stove) or will be ripped out again (our floor). I'll try to view it more as half full tomorrow. If my new stencil arrives, and I get some of it up on the wall after work, that will do wonders for my spirits ;) Oh, and if I sell a house or 2 tomorrow, that would help big time...

Charlie Brown, oh I mean Dianalo, ((((HUGS)))))

I'm so glad they're rushing your beautiful stencil to you! It's so much better than the one they mistakenly sent. It's going to look gorgeous!

Wishing you nothing but the best of luck!
