Maybe I'm going crazy....your thoughts.....

Okay here is the deal. I got this new pair of pajama pants today. They are great. I just love them, they are stripped and have all these great colors in them. Maybe I will take a picture for everyone later.

Anyway, I am sitting doing homework with Blake and I start looking down at my pants. I keep thinking wow this is great material. This would look so good in a quilt. This really has some great colors I could cooridinate with it. Of course I tell myself your just thinking nonsense now. They are just pajama pants.

Then a little while latter I am going potty and find myself looking for the tag to check if they are 100% cotton. Cause of course I just can't get the thought of what a great quilt these would make out of my head. And guess what they are.

Then I started thinking about all the great coordinating pants they already had made that match these perfectly and if I bought those I could use them in the quilt. I think maybe I am going crazy.....who in there right mind would contemplate going and spending $9 on perfectly good pj pants just to cut them up and use them for quilting. Well I would of course, but how the heck would I explain that one to my husband?

So I bring my crazyness to you. In hopes you can help me make sense out of such nonsense. I think that might just be the final straw for my DH if I started cutting up perfectly good brand new pants just for the fabric. He may actually ground me from my sewing machine, which he threatens at regular intervals when I don't clean the house cause I am to busy sewing.

Oh what is a girl to do, when there are so many inspirational pj pants around.

You could always decide you wanted very short pajama bottoms and cut the legs off to use in the quilt. I see men with patterned shirts on now and then and want to go over and rip them off and take them home (the shirts that is).

Be sure you show us what you made with them if you do.

I don't think you are crazy at all. Lots of quilters get shirts and other items from thrift stores to use in their quilts. If there is a yard of fabric in them then the price is about the same as a yard of good quilting fabric. And besides you will still be sleeping in them.

    Well Amcf,

If you're crazy then I'm right in there w/ ya. I'd thought the same abt nice striped cotton pants which had worn out at the thighs. They're washed, pressed & wating for a project.

I have no hubby to account to so I can do whatever I want. I once bought a size 8 sundress (not a size I ever fit) from a thrift shop 'cause it was made of 3 different indigo & white batiks, was GORGEOUS! Right front bodice was one, left front bodice another, back bodice a third & the skirt repeated one of the front bodices. I made a sampler to teach myself Flying Geese, made 3 columns, sashed w/ indigo solid, all on a white ground w/ binding of one of the other patterns. Cost me $5 or 10, was great!

Can you go buy a duplicate pair, wear one & quilt the other? Otherwise, maybe cut them down to sort shorts (w/ which to entice him) & make quilts from the legs?

See -- told ya you're not alone!

Well, you don't want to get grounded from your machine or to upset your DH either, I presume, but I don't think you're crazy at all. Thanks for the chuckle, though. I keep picturing you looking at those pants and envisioning how you could cut them up!

I once ripped up a beautiful winter coat that I didn't wear much because the wool in it would look sooo good with other woolens I was putting into a braided rug. And it did, and I never regretted it.

If you think the DH might get terribly upset, why not try to persuade him first? He might agree to it if you put some other materials you have together and make an appealing short nightie or something to take the place of the pj's! Or perhaps you could make a good case that the material in the pj's would only cost a little more than if you had bought the same yardage off the bolt. It isn't every day that you can find fabric you love, even on the bolt.

Well go crazy, ever seen a normal person! Good luck and enjoy the job....your husband will love you for your happy smile!

Amy, you crack me up. If it was me, I would wear them a couple of times and then feel that I was recycling used clothing, just like in the olden days.

Don't forget to show us a picture of your jammies quilt.

Amy, you gave me a good laugh this morning. If you want to, then go ahead. I would also like to see a picture of them. You should be able to think up some reasons why they would look better in a quilt. Are they too big, too little, too long, too short, too bright, or too dark? Any reason will do.

I totally see nothing at all wrong with that! One of my quilts is named "The Goodwill Skirt" - fabric too pretty to not make into a quilt. Just increases our options, is all.

Go out any buy another pair and tell DH you found fabric like your pj's if only 9.00 dollars that is how much fabric rounds a yard....don't upset your DH if you know he will go off!Just cut the pj's when no one is home.....and no one has to know but you!

This is a funny posting, but I have to say I don't remember being tempted to cut up any of my clothes for quilting. I don't particularly like the idea of cutting up a *new* pair of pajamas, but I agree with the idea of cutting them off above the knee so they are still usable! I don't think Amy will rest unless she is able to use that fabric in a quilty thing!
What bothers me the *most* is being accountable to a husband for such a thing. I'm in the same boat, maybe worse, so I can identify. I think there are a few among us who wouldn't think even a moment about cutting up their own pj bottoms. I'd love to hear from these people!

Well I may just go out and buy a new pair and maybe a couple to go with it. Might even make shorts out of a few just so I can have the legs.

I wore the pants last night and they were super comfy. And they are pretty. They tie with a pretty blue grossgain ribbon at the waist. I will take a picture for all to see just as soon as my camara batteries finish charging.
