What do you think of this lamp for beside my desk? It's a drop down desk so I didn't want a desk lamp. Too much trouble if I want to close up the mess! I've had this gift card for ever and I finally found a reason to use it.

Desk (not this lamp):

Side wall of desk that I just did a few months ago:

I really like the lamp but I can't make a decision unless I saw the whole room. The corner looks very modern with the black and white pictures, and the lamp adds to it. Contemporary I guess. Is that the look you're going after?

I gave my son the picture of the snow and trees you have. We both love snow and he loves it!

If I were buying a lamp for that room, I would be looking at silver bases. The white base doesn't do anything for me.

I really want that lamp to be black with a white shade. I don't know...maybe that's too much b&w, but this seems too much white. Just my opinion after a mind-frying day, so take it carefully....

I am sorry, but I also agree. It's too white I think. I would like a black or silver base.

What about painting it a deep red/maroon? I think it would be nice to have a pop of color there.

But I do love that lamp and it's a keeper no matter where you put it!

I agree, wrong lamp. It would be the odd duck in the beautiful flow and feel of the rest of your home.

I like the base but agree it's too white. I think you could find something that fits the space better. I could see the shade being one of those woven types. I'm really digging those right now so that could be why, lol. Then again, to buy the lamp and then have to buy a new shade. . . it might be better/easier just to keep searching.

The woodturned base works with antique desk yet the all white silhouette of the lamp says modern.
I love your room and I think the lamp works beautifully.

I think something silver would work much better.

Would not be my choice. I like the brushed nickel/silver one you have on the table...maybe find something to match that. Your desk and corner is really beautiful.

Love the lamp. Add a black ribbon around the shade and you're set.

I need to see more of the room please.

I think the all white adds a touch of whimsy, I like it. I vote you keep it !!
    Much less predictable than silver.

Too white, too ornate. I would prefer to see a nickel/silver finish, and a more modern style lamp and perhaps a smaller shade. I think you have so much going on in that corner already, the lamp needs to be more subdued and not stand out as much.

I vote for No. Not that white lamp.

I add my vote with those who mentioned a silver lamp that works with the one on the side wall.

Love it. Agree that adding a bit of black ribbon on the shade would tie it in beautifully.

I wish I could find my other camera so that I could get more of the room in it to show you.

    Here's the scenario:

Shades of navy and chambray are what I am incorporating as accent colors throughout the downstairs.

The LR (old pic is across the hall but looking into the office - both w/ double wide entries facing each other):

    {{!gwi}}
is the 'heavier and more exotic' room of the two. I've already begun incorporating the navy in there mixed w/ a rough pine armoire and there are dark brown leather club chairs. All of the lamps have large black bases including a floor lamp which has a turned wood base.

I was hoping to keep a lighter and airier more 'feminine' feel to our office area. DH has his side w/ a large dark wood desk and similar style desk lamp as the lamp on the bookshelf beside my desk. His has a brown shade though.

All of the furniture is very dark except my antique frenchie, curvy occasional chair w/ lions feet. It is cream and I'm going to price having a midnight blue velvet slipcover w/ mini box pleat made for the seat. My desk chair seat will be reupholstered in a navy and white print and it was suggested that I do DH's desk seat in a great navy leather w/ silver nailhead trim. I will be incorpprating some new mats for the gallery wall prints in varied shades of blue. Curtains (if it looks right - am trying one today) are going to be a chambray color like in my LR (navy velvet throughout for Fall and Winter). My desk sits right beside this very large and dark FP so the lamp is between the 2:

I was hoping to bring a bit of whimsy into the room and to break up all of the dark heavy furniture and trim.

I like the suggestions of a black (or maybe navy?) ribbon trim. I'll see if I can dig any up in my ribbon stash and paper clip it on and post a pic.

I think the white lamp is stunning just like it is against the wall and contrasting with all the linear elements in that space. I wouldn't change it or send it back. I like how it kind of highlights some of the curvy wood grain in the wood piece to the left of it.

I think it's perfect! Works with the white boxes, drapes, mats on photos.....and it's not predictable. I love everything you're doing there. I hope you keep it.

I vote no also. I would strive for something similar to the other lights in your house. Something with metal.

Funny how evenly divided it is isn't it?!

You either like it or you don't! Just another testament as to the vast style diversity that posts on GW!

I'm in the don't like camp. Doesn't seem like it fits with your style, and not right there.

What a wonderful home you have! I love the beautiful woodwork, your fireplace and that gorgeous desk, too. I think the black framed art work and photos work so well with them, because they're black & white, which adds that dual element of old and modern at the same time. But, to my eye, the new lamp looks too slick, pretty and busy (despite it being all white) for your lovely room. If it were me, I'd look for something more along the lines of the fantastic floor lamp in that first pic.

I like it, especially if you do a black or navy ribbon to break up the white and tie in with the rest of the room.

Do you mind if I ask where you found it? It looks like something that might work in my MBR. Thanks!

Keep the lamp...to the left, in first pic. This white lamp doesn't have the "look". If you wanted to change the lamp out for "another" floor lamp. I'd go for a tripod floor lamp. Make a statement! STYLE!!!

I meant keep the lamp to the "right" in the first pic....should have checked the pic before posting....:0)

credomk - I got it at HomeGoods.

Nicole - that tri-pod lamp is fantastic but is something that I would put on DH's side of the office. I def. want something very feminine on my side of the room. That tri-pod lamp is awesome though! It does give me an idea for a sitting area in the office that I've been kicking around in my head. I just need to move the unused piano to another room (which is something I wanted to do anyways). DH has a great chair masculine chair to match my feminine chair and I've wanted to use them both together to 'bring together' our areas.

Ah, HomeGoods. Where everyone seems to find great things except me. :-) I'll have to keep trying!

I'm eager to see what you end up deciding with the lamp. Knowing you, it will be beautiful.

I like the silver lamp you already have there as well. It goes great with your black and white pictures and looks like it adjusts for the perfect fit.

    Thanks credomk!

The apothecary lamp that is in the first picture doesn't work because the arm sticks out too much and I have to move it to close the desk and it bumps into the shelves on that side.

On the other side (the side where the white lamp is pictured) the arm sticks out into the sight line of the fireplace and that bugs me.

So I think I may be taking the tags off today!

Is the second pic your home? It looks like a catalong shot.
Ok. I like silver for there. I see a silver lamp to the side. Looks so pretty with everything the black and white.
    Silver. Silver. Silver.

Oye! So pretty! I cannot stop looking!!!!! You should be so proud!

i would keep looking...i think not only is the white abit much, but the style is also off....i LOVE the look of your fireplace and to my eye, the 2 looks don't complement each other....

Tt, your home always says eclectic and homey, but to me, the white lamp throws that off somehow.

I like the sturdier pole/base look, as shown in the one nicole posted. Maybe someone can suggest a feminine, yet sturdy based lamp.

Check out the link and look at it in "polished nickel."

Take the tags off. It's fantastic. Soft lines that break up all of the hard black, it's unexpected, which makes it perfect. It softens in the right way :) I'd try the black ribbon, but personally I love it just as it is. You have enough white in the area that it isn't alone. I think it's just marvelous, and love that it isn't like the other lamps in the room! Not matchy matchy in all the right ways :)

So on that silver lamp you have next to the desk...is that two bases with one shade? I can't quite see but i'm intrigued by the idea :)

I like the silver bases on your other lamps. I'd carry on with that. We are in the process of planning our new house. It's been 32 years since I've been able to get what I want. Every choice I make, I ask myself..."HOW EASY IS IT TO CLEAN?" "IS IT A DUST MAGNET?" I tend not to like ornate, dust catching things but that's just me.

    Good luck!

I like it! I'd have some fun with the shade, though-- I'd add color and a print for the shade. I like the red/maroon idea.
