I'm looking for your sectional, is this it?

I'm having a fit because I can't remember whose sectional I saw posted here that was the exact one I want. It was a small sectional, with a green or tan microfibre cover and I'll go so far to say I think it was made by Flexsteel. Do you own this sectional? I'm trying to find photo's of different small sectionals. After taking some measurements today, we determined a small sectional would be best for our new great room.

Thanks so much.

Is it this one? It's the Flexsteel Jennings sectional, left corner sofa unit plus right loveseat, something in the area of 90x105 give or take a bit. It's not microfiber though, but a very tightly-woven, almost-no-pile chenille in a sage gray-green. I'm so glad DH kicked me in the butt to buy it (it was a big chunk of change for our budget) because it solved so many problems with our room. Artwork has been moved, finally, and coffee table replaced with another in a better scale WRT the sectional, but the LR is too messy right now to take any pictures! I'm also sorry it's not a very good picture, the living room is too small to get back far enough to get much in the frame... although I did just notice that I managed to get the dog's butt in there. LOL

bless you mari, that is it!! Sorry, I had the fabric wrong. LOL

Do you have a choice of cushion firmness when you buy the flexsteel? I need a very firm couch.

Our area is so small we'll have to get the 2 loveseats. Because of an error in the kitchen cabinet placement by the cabinet lady and DH not wanting to stall things to straighten out the error, our counter is sticking out 6" more than it should, intruding on the living area. We want bar stools and in order to do that we don't have room for a conventional sofa and tables. It would be too crowded for my taste. This small sectional will be ideal.

Thanks so much for the photo.

Brutuses, Hi.....that is a really good looking sectional, nice styling, has a traditional feel to it. Flexsteel has an awfully good reputation in furniture, it used to have a lifetime warranty, any more I don't know if it does or not. Patsy go on to the Flexsteel web site and I think you could find out plenty of info. Happy Easter, Susan

Hi Susan, I did go to the site. That's where I saw the Jennings, but the site doesn't have that sectional on their "decorate in fabric" section so I couldn't "play around" with it. They still have the lifetime warranty and I like that because I don't plan on buying another sofa in this lifetime. LOL

Glad it was the right one. The one shown on the page I linked above is the double loveseat. I really love the cutback arms, it's amazing how that little detail made the whole thing look so much less bulky! It was very hard to find something scaled properly to fit the small space available (it takes up ALL of two walls, there are heavily used doors just a few inches past both of the small end tables), especially ones that don't have the chaises which are just about impossible for me to clamber out of, and that was traditional looking enough to look appropriate in an old house. Clayton Marcus has a couple of sectionals that can be built that small (if you like the slipcover look check out the CM Montauk, style 3229) but I liked the Flexsteel better and it was several hundred dollars cheaper - enough to pay for the coffee table and then some.

You don't get a cushion choice on the Jennings, even as an upgrade, but the standard cushions are quite firm - I actually thought DH would find it too firm but it's just right for me for lying down, and he thinks it's just fine too. I would make sure to give this one the butt test. It's a very popular model though, every Flexsteel dealer in my area had a Jennings (usually in some heinous fabric LOL) on the sales floor, so call around to your local dealers.

One thing I should note - the seat depth is somewhat shallower than most of the (huge) couches on the market right now, in line with its allover scale. Not terribly so, there's room enough for my size 18 self to lie down comfortably without feeling like I'm going to roll off, but it is rather noticeable if you're coming from a very deep, big couch like we were. The seat height is also just a wee tad higher than our old couch and many of the other ones we tried out in stores, which makes it a lot easier for me to sit down and get up so for me that's a feature. (IIRC you have a truckload of arthritic bits too, right?)

mari, you've covered all of my concerns, i.e., seat depth and height. I like a shallow seat and a high seat so this sofa sounds like it will be the perfect match for my big butt!! LOL When I showed DH the photo he flipped over those arms. He said that was the prettiest sofa he'd ever seen. Whew, great, he won't mind that high price tag. LOL

It is so funny you mentioned the Clayton Marcus. It was a CM I was inquiring about on Craigs that had us measuring the space today. A resale shop had this CM sofa 88" that they had received from the estate of an elderly lady who had to go in a nursing home. The original sofa cover was quite ugly, but the sofa itself was in excellent condition and the price was $100. I was ecstatic there for a few moments imagining that I'd actually get a good sofa for $100 that only required a new cover. Well, after measuring we realized even though the sofa would fit, it wouldn't leave room for an end table and then there was the problem of some type of seating coming around the side. I was crushed that I couldn't buy that sofa. Whomever gets it will have quite the bargain.

This small sectional will be perfect for the space. It will be expensive, but what the heck, I've been prepared anyway to have to pay full price for a sofa.

I'm going to call around Monday to my dealers and try to get some prices. Thanks again for all the information.

We ordered the Clayton Marcus "Theodore" sectional (RF sofa & LF loveseat) at the beginning of March, and are anxiously awaiting its arrival. The overall measurements are 94" x 92", which will fit perfectlly in our limited space. We have a small house with a small living room that is laid out oddly (to say the least). We also have competing focal points, with the fireplace on one wall and the TV armoire on another. Since we have limited space for entertaining having a sectional should help in that regard. In addition to the sectional, I've built a 36" x 36" ottoman/coffee table, which will allow us to comfortably seat 2 more people should the need arise.
We looked at the Flexsteel as well as the Clayton Marcus but for us, the Clayton Marcus style was perfect (it was those killer legs!).

mrsmarv, that is very pretty. You're right, those are some killer legs. Please do post a photo of yours the minute it comes in.

brutuses, we had two AMAZING couches - one a leather Bradington-Young that was massively oversized for the room and the other a lovely Highland House (very good product but not well known) camelback couch that I inherited from Organic Smallhome which was in somewhat better scale but we could only put a small loveseat next to it (more like a cross between a settee and a chair-and-a-half). Guess who got to scrunch up on the little loveseat? It also left a big wasted hunk of space in the corner even when we put our tea table and a floor lamp back there. Luckily the former dining room turned sitting room is big enough to take both couches, more or less, it's a little crowded but it's not going to be the "forever" arrangement... we'll probably get another, different sectional for that room someday! LOL

Wow, for a hubby to say that's the prettiest sofa he's ever seen... dang.

If I may be crass and speak of pricing, we paid something in the area of $1900 IIRC (that's a LOT of money to me, boy did it hurt and I dithered for ages!)... we'd have paid less had we waited several months for one dealer's annual Flexsteel sale, but we had Had Enough and considering it was going to take 10-12 weeks to get the durn thing anyway we weren't going to wait. The North Carolina thing was not an option in my book, too many horror stories of things going wrong - at least with a local dealer I had someone to go growl at face to face if I needed to. ;-) I am NOT a risk taker when there's money involved!

We decided not to get anything up on legs because of the household epidemic of dust bunnies (the joys of a double-coated dog plus old house plus forced hot-air heat even though we theoretically have an air cleaner on the furnace - I paid for it, I see it on there, I change the filters but it doesn't seem to do much)... I'd rather they hid behind the skirts. LOL The Morris chair has high enough legs for me to clean under there easily with a Swiffer without having to get down on the floor (it's a laugh riot watching me get back up when Arthur's come visiting - that's Arthur Itis, you know!) and when I replace the too-modern upholstered bench with a wing chair or Victorian easy chair that'll be either up on tallish legs or skirted too. Just can't manage the low legs although they are pretty awesome looking.

Brutuses, I swear my sofa is the same color as JohnMari's. However, ours is a Rowe. Here is a picture of ours but the color does not look right in the picture. The color is more than color that JM's appears in the picture, sort of a sage/loden/graphite green.

    http://www.csnsofas.com/asp/show_image.asp?pr=0amp;sku=RWE1103

JohnMari, I know Highland House. I have two chairs, one a wingback and the other a pub-like chair from them, and before giving it to #1 son, had a Highland House sofa. Princess Di's personal assistant's choice of furniture maker.

Mari, thanks for mentioning the price. I wanted to ask, but I didn't want to be crass. I thought it would be more, so that's a nice surprise. It's a lot of money for us also, but it's our last couch. This is the one that goes to the flea market after we're gone. Forgive my ignorance, but what does IIRC stand for? Glad to know it takes a while, that's means I need to get a move on and get it ordered.

I have a nightmare sofa story from years ago. When we were first married we bought Natuzzi leather couch. The funiture store said it was coming from Italy and it would be about 3 months. Well, it took that dang couch 8 months to get here. I had to inquire a couple of times if the thing had been hijacked by pirates on it's way here. I actually believe one time they told me it was actually ruined during shipment and they had to order another. I don't remember the countless stories.

Yes, DH just loves the arms and the way they curve.

I would like to have one way up on legs because the fur mice are a PITA to dig out. Our current sofa is low to the floor and I have to literlly move it to get the toys and dust from under it. Can you fit a swiffer under your couch? I can't even fit one under my current couch.

Thanks Patricia for posting yours. I like the color and style. Very pretty. Is yours actually that size?

    IIRC = If I Recall/Remember Correctly :-)

Yeah, I can fit a Swiffer under the couch quite easily if I get down on the floor, flip the skirt up (ooh, cheeky!), and lay the Swiffer down pretty much flat, swiping it from back to front. Just like cleaning under that clawfoot bathtub, remember? (That was you, right?) It actually has legs about 4-5" tall, they're just covered by the skirt. You are NOT moving this couch to clean under it unless you have about three very burly men because it weighs a TON. The two sections are held together with a metal clip so they don't shift. Our delivery guys swore a blue streak getting the two parts clipped together because the parts were so heavy!

I love that sectional. I have been looking for one on a small scale and that looks perfect.I'm short and can't stand those massive couches.I have a Flexsteel couch and loveseat that I bought 30 years ago. It went through 3 kids from toddlers to 20 somethings. I moved it to the basement in their teens and I can't tell you how well it lasted. The cover was an orange chenille and it didn't even wear. It was perfect. However I did get it reupholstered and is still in our finished basement. I was about to bring it back up again if I couldn't find a couch that was the right size. Thanks again for posting.

mari, I'm glad to hear it's large enough to get a swiffer under and maybe high enough for the cats to retrieve their own toys from under it. LOL

Brutuses, mine seats 3+2+corner. I really don't know how long it is. I did know when I was shopping but I forgot soon after it was delivered. This was my second one in as many months. We bought a Lee and our house was flooded within a week or so of it being delivered and then we had to get another one because it was ruined. The lee we had chosen was no longer available and this Rowe seemed to fit the space and the color blended well with everything. Yes, you ca get aswiffer under it but it's pretty easy to move to clean. We had to get our rugs done after we got flooded and a week after we had them put down our dog had an accident, so they had to go back to Atlanta for cleaning again, so I know it is pretty easy to move in order to put the rug under it. I have done it twice.

"It's a lot of money for us also, but it's our last couch."

Yup, that's what DH said, too LOL. I'll be in the crass camp and divulge the price we paid, which is $2150, from soup to nuts. I'm with Mari and want to deal with a brick and mortar store, rather than some who-knows-from-where trucking company delivering our furniture from NC. We ordered ours from a retail store in Pennsylvania called Lauter's. They've been in business fro 100 years and are the largest furniture store in the Lehigh Valley. They deliver to PA, NJ and southern NY and do not charge a delivery fee! And no tax because they're shipping out of state. Our fabric was not one of the high-end ones, just a pretty basic slubbed chenille (which will wear like iron), I believe it's a Grade 5 in the Clayton Marcus fabric line. I wanted legs rather than a skirt so I can easily find all the dustbunnies that will accumulate because there's no way in heck I'll be moving that sectional. And there's something about those legs that just did it for me :o) We chose a muted solid smoky blue. I'll make new covers for teh throw pillows (there are 3) to match the fabric I use when I cover the ottoman.
I'll post photos when everything is in place.
Mari ~ you say yours is a chenille...how do you like it with your furbabies shedding, etc?

That's a nice looking sectional. I'm going to look into that for our bedroom sitting area. DH wants a sectional so badly for that area and it would have to be a smaller scale piece just like that one.

On a side note, please be careful ordering furniture from North Carolina. Both my brother and my good friend had bad experiences from 2 completely different vendors. One was an outright fraud, and the other just took 9 months to get, despite weekly promises of delivery.

I have a local flexsteel dealer locally so I won't have any trouble ordering through their store, I'm sure. Thanks for that warning.

Lord have mercy, what did I do to cause this outbreak about North Carolina furniture. Exit left.

mrsmarv, I brought home a stack of fabric samples and rubbed them all over the dog LOL to see which ones his hair would stick to least. (I vacuumed them very thoroughly with an anti-allergen spray afterward!) Chenilles vary widely as do different pets' hair types. Most of what my dog sheds is very fine and downy undercoat, and some of it is a stiffer "guard hair" from his outer coat, so we had two kinds of hair to contend with. The fabric we have has little pile to it and a very tight weave and doesn't hold either kind of hair much at all. If it does it's a little clump on the surface that I can just pick up. I didn't want a "hard" fabric like a twill even though that's usually a good fabric for sheddy critters, and I was stubborn about only getting a solid, unpatterned fabric which threw out things like heavy, tightly-woven tapestries and damasks. The velvet I really lusted for grabbed that hair like crazy :-( so it's on the pillows that came free with the couch instead, and I simply could not afford leather again although we'd have LOVED to have it. (It more than doubled the price. Same for the Crypton fabrics.) I have developed a passionate loathing for microfiber so I never even considered that.

I absolutely REFUSE to cover my furniture with sheets or blankets to keep the dog hair off so it's nice for guests. Our furniture is for our family, including our critter(s) (I don't want to have to get down on the floor to cuddle - our late cat simply went wherever she wanted :-) while the dog comes up on the couch or bed when invited to do so, by his own preference), and guests are a long, LONG way back in the priority list.

Unfortunately, with so many cats I'm afraid microfibre will be the way to go for me. I need something they won't claw and none of them will touch the microfibre covered chairs I have so microfibre it is. I'll get some nice pillows in different fabrics and designs to break up the boring solid microfibre. LOL

"I have developed a passionate loathing for microfiber so I never even considered that."

Brutuses ~ Beware of microfiber, even though you say that your kitties don't claw your microfiber chairs. BTDT and I can tell you from experience that I'm in the "microfiber-loathing camp". Our cats loved to claw and scratch it and the animal hair sticks to it like it's a magnet. Our last sofa and chair were microfiber and holy moly!, what a time I had. The vacuum and I were in very close contact every single stinking day. I have no idea what the difference is between the different types of microfiber, but our little darlings adored the microfiber chair....not the sofa though, and it was covered in the same fabric. I'm sure it has to do with their individual idiosyncracies ;o) I guess what I'm saying is just because they don't love to claw your chairs won't mean they won't love to claw your sofa, so get the fabric you want. This time around we wanted something pleasing to the touch and for us, microfiber didn't make us feel "oooh and aaaah". That's why we went with the chenille. We looked at hundreds of fabrics and kept coming back to it. As it turned out it wasn't one of the more expensive choices.

I know microfibre loves to grab hair, but what I love about it is the way it lets it go. LOL The sofa I have now is covered in some type of tightly woven fabric and no one ever wanted to tear it up till I acquired this one cat who started tearing at the back of the chair that was facing the doorway. Cats like to mark items that are by doorways. Their way of letting the other cats know they have passed that way. Now that I put a tall scratching post next to the chair, they go to the post and leave the chair alone.

When thinking of a new couch for the house I was thinking of slip covered originally. I thought how nice it would be to have slip covers (I love that style) and have the ability to wash them as needed. No matter how much I clean the sofa, it still gets dirty from the paws, fur. I am a nut about covering my sofa. I have more cats than you and believe me, they can get things pretty dirty in a short time. The dogs were never invited onto the furniture so they stay on the floor. If they were to get on the sofa, we'd have to get on the floor, because they are so big. LOL So gettting slip covers would be ideal for me. However, I'm not sure this flexsteel comes with removable slip covers. Do you know if they offer slips for this style?

" Cats like to mark items that are by doorways."

Aha!! The chair we had was by our back French doors. Unfortunately, one section of the sectional will be in the same proximity ;o( I know there's something I can buy and attach to the bottom of the furniture that will discourage them from scratching. One can only hope.

mrsmarv, invest in a tall sisal scratching post. They have some at Petsmart. They have solid wood bases and tops are very stable, chunky and the cats love them. If your cat responds to cat nip, rub some on it and watch him laugh at your couch to get to that scratching post. lOL

With regard to a slipcovered sectional, I think Mari is correct about the Clayton Marcus #3229 (Montauk). It may be an actual slipcovered piece. It doesn't say in the description but if you look closely at the link you can see that it looks slipcovered rather than having "stationary" fabric. You could call a dealer near you and find out. If it is slipcovered, the Clayton Marcus might have a configuration that works for you.

Here is a link that might be useful: CM

some of the manufacturers of sectional sofas, especially the higher end ones, are making the slip-covered sectionals which have fitted slipcovers, but are also covered and you can add slip covers annually or however. It's an option and a sort of expensive one. I think Pottery Barn does it also, but not sure.

Yes, I know the slip covers can get real pricey. I saw one somewhere for $1500. Wow, I'd have to wait till the sofa was worn and dirty before I could justify an extra $1500 for a cover for a new sofa.

Well, since a lot of you seem to have recently shopped for smaller sectionals, do you mind a brief hijack for me to ask a question? The configuration of my family room dictates an even smaller sectional - I can do a sofa along one wall, but need only 1 seat along the other side. (Picture Mari's without the extra middle seat on the shorter side). That wall runs about 72" long, so I need a side that is shorter than that or I stick out into traffic. Basically, what I need is one of those sofas with the long chaise sticking out of one end, but I want the chaise to have a full back and arm at the end, if you know what I mean.

I have found a few sectionals like this, but they are super-expensive (Pottery barn has one that runs about $4K, Nantuckit also makes one that's even mnore). I'd can't spend that much. But when I looked at the flexsteel configuration, they don't make that single-chair-with-an-arm that I need to butt up against the long corner sofa.

I'm not even sure a sectional is the best choice for this room - the room has some unique challenges that I'll probably post about someday -- it's small and very oddly configured. But in the meantime, has anyone seen a sectional with a super-short-one-seater side that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Lkplatow, how about if you did a right-arm loveseat with a left-arm chaise, or vice versa? CM's model 3814 makes 2 pieces for that configuration. It would be 87 in long, and the chaise would stick out 62 in.

    Bebe

Here is a link that might be useful: CM model 3814

lkplatow ~ The sectional that bebe recommends is the one we ordered. The ones photographed in the link are the Left Arm Chaise, Right Arm Corner Sofa and the Armless Loveseat. They have a total of 11 pieces to mix and match, which is more than alot of the other manufacturers. We ordered the Left Arm Corner Sofa and the Right Arm Loveseat.

Won't work -- I need the chaise to have a full "back" along the length of it. This is hard to describe but the sectional would fit into a corner with both sides against walls. The spot with the best TV viewing would actually be the very end of the short side. So if that was a chaise, you'd be sitting across the end of the chaise leaning back against the wall. I really want an arm and full back on the short side. So the configuration I need is a long corner sofa and a single-seat armchair (with no chaise). Can't find too many sectionals that offer that single-seat one-armed chair.

Gotcha...how about the Clayton Marcus #3189. I've supplied the link. It has 13 pieces to choose from and one of them is a chair with arm (either Left Arm Chair or Right Arm Chair). The style is similar to Mari's but without the cut-away arms (and those are really sweeet BTW). It might be what you're looking for. So many choices, so little space LOL. I feel your pain.
