Please help me choose: Palladian Blue vs. Woodlawn Blue or OTHER

I'm having a heck of a time trying to match the blue glass tile in my bathroom. Here are a couple I've actually swatched on the walls so far. I like Palladian Blue (which is swatched on the right side) better than Woodlawn Blue (swatched on the left) becaue it seems like a perkier/happier color, but Woodlawn Blue seems like a better match tone wise. Husband doesn't care for either one because he thinks they're too dark (he's a color-phobe thought). Anyone have any other suggestions?

I prefer the Woodlawn Blue, but I would do it at 65%. It seems too saturated next to the gray tile, which has quite a bit of movement in it. My eye is also drawn to the geometric shapes in the shower. For that reason, IMO, I'd keep the paint very light in the room.

Thanks for your replies mtnrdredux and pipdog. I'm glad you're happy with Palladian, mtnrdredux. IF I do choose this color, I would probably use it lightly as well since it is so pigmented.

Pipdog, I think I'm gonna take your advice on the strong movement of the tile and geometric shapes calling for lighter paint. Do you think 50% would be too light in the Woodlawn?

If you have a piece of the tile you can take it to the paint store and they can match it. I personally think it should be the same value but not as intense as the tile.

I agree about the intensity of color in this room. You have kind of an ethereal vibe going here, with your marble and pale blue tile. I think you'll ruin the overall effect if you have too much color on the walls. I would try the Woodlawn Blue, but with less color in it. Since you already have a sample of that at home, take a bit of it, mix it with a bit of white until you have the color you want, and then take that color on a board (prime it first) back to the paint store for a color match.

Which everyone you choose have samples mixed at 25% and 50%.

We did this with Waynesboro Taupe and came out with the perfect color for our home, a silvery taupe. Just to give an idea of how we used both mixtures, the 50% is in the for LR, DR, and stairwell and 25% in 2nd floor hall.

I have palladian blue in my exercise room and I just love the color. However, looking at the larger picture, it looks to me as if the shade isn't right...it looks to have not enough blue as the tile. I think taking the tile to the store is the best way to match it.

I don't know...lately I've been having trouble with BM colors as much as I love their paint...in both my kitchen and my library, I could only find the exact shade I wanted with Martha Stewart colors at home depot....

I would not do either one. I would do a very soft grey on the walls, and then bring out the tile color in the towels, rugs, art and accessories in the room.

To me, the tile will lose some of the impact once all the walls carry that same color.

I think les917 idea of a grey is the best solution. More impact for the beautiful accent tile to shine on its own with towel and accessories.

I knew I could count on you guys for great advice. You've helped me to narrow the issue down to intensity so whether I go Woodlawn which I'm leaning towards, Palladium or gray (maybe BM Stone White?) I'll have to be sure to get it lightened with white paint. You guys are such a great help to a novice like me. So when they tone them down, can I just ask them to add white so that it will be 50% toned down to the can of Woodlawn I already have since there's still a ton left in there or do I have to ask them to make up a new sample? Sorry, I have no clue.

Annie, I will also check out the Martha Stewart shades today to see if there's anything I like there and Les917, I really like your idea about the accessories helping accent the tile instead of paint. Hmmmmm...will have to ponder this for awhile. Anyway you guys were all a great help!

I just wanted to add that I think I saw a bathroom with your green tiles painted in SW SeaSalt. I used SW sea salt and it's companion, SW comfort gray in my bathroom and really love it. I think it might be a good match for your tiles. However, the color is very reflective in different lights, so you would have to buy samples and try them both on each wall to see which of the two paints to use.

I like the suggestion of gray too, but I'm curious to know what color your floor is? If it's gray too, it might be gray overload and a contrasting color in a very soft shade might provide some variation. But if you are looking for a gray with no blue, purple or beige undertones, try BM Nimbus at 80%. I just used it in my bedroom and it is very soft and a true gray.

I think Woodlawn at 50% might work. You might even want to try 40% - now that I am looking at the swatch, it's a fairly dark color. I'm seeing something very light in there so that you don't even notice the paint - the focus should be on that beautiful shower. You can just ask them to give you a test can of it at ___% strength.

    Here's Nimbus at 80%:

I would also take a look at BM Moonshine. It's a gorgeous gray w/a hint of blue-green. I have it in one of my bathrooms and love the color.

Geogirl1, thanks for your suggestions. I tried SW Sea Salt, but it's a bit too green-gray to match the tile. Lovely color though!

Thanks Pipdog for posting your pics. I absolutely LOVE how Nimbus looks in your room. So serene and understated. I'm going to take your suggestion that gray would be overload in my bathroom because my floors are silver travertine and have a ton of gray in them. I actually found an even closer match to my tile than Woodlawn at HD with Behr's Tide Pool cut by 50%. Thanks for your tips about cutting the strength of the color!

Thanks for your suggestion tfm1134. Will have to look into BM Moonshine too! Sounds very pretty.

I LOVE Palladian blue...have it in our guest room. For you though...I would go with Woodlawn. Palladian is a touch too green. Woodlawn looks like a much better match for your tile, just a tad more blue without being too blue. Lovely.

I bet Tide Pool will work well -it is more clear, crisp and fresh -less dusky than the previous colors. Can't wait to see it!

I have been trying grays to match my marble tile mix which is sort of a mix of gray with tan with almost tan/green. The colors that matches the gray are:
    BM Metallic Silver, mod intensity
    BM Sweet Innocence, mod intensity
    BM Bunny Gray, very light
BM Ice Cube Silver, very light

The only colors these grays have in them are black and gray. These grays read a slight blue, so these may not be your cup of tea.

    palladian > woodland

Palladian will make your bathroom happier. Woodland looks darker and to me looks like it will set off a non happier mood lol

Here is a trick I learned from my color theory class. Use a camera in black & white setting and you can see the different color tones/values in comparison. The woodland is a lot darker tone than the palladian. I think the woodland would compete for attention against the tiles and you want the tiles to be the main focal point with a wall color that compliments it.

I agree with a few of the people that said not to do either one. If you do blue all over the walls you will lose the impact of your accent tile. I would also chose a light soft gray. It will blend better with your marble and make your accent tiles stand out.

I just recently painted my MBR palladian blue and I think it is such a wonderfully serene, cheerful color...I just love it. However, in the pic you posted, the Woodlawn (also a very pretty color) looks like a better match to your tiles...but I am in agreement with the others that it needs to be softened/lightened up a bit so that your gorgeous tiles take center stage.

You might have already tried it but SW Rainwashed is also very pretty but it is really similar to palladian so not sure if that would be an option for you. Also, what about BM Quiet Moments??? I like the idea of a soft ethereal blue...not so keen on the idea of gray (it would be way too much gray IMO).

Let us know what you decide! If you get more samples mixed up, post pics!!
