How many rugs in your bathroom?

What is your rug scheme in your master and guest bathrooms? Do you have one large rug? Two smaller ones in front of each sink? One in front of the bath/shower stall and one in front of the sink? Do you have a hotel type bath mat? Toilet seat cover and toilet base rug?

I'm to the point of tossing worn rugs and towels and replacing them with new. Just curious to find out what works for others.

Thanks for your ideas!

Guest bath (larger): 2 - One next to tub that also serves the tootsies of someone sitting on the toilet. One at the sink (only one sink).

Master bath (smaller): 1 - Not a lot of floor space. One adjacent to shower that passes the toilet.

I prefer rugs that are washable (i.e. no rubber backing) - I usually buy dhurrie rugs because they're inexpensive and wash well. I don't like the rugs that go around the base of the toilet or on the lid - those seem dated to me.

Our bath is an L shape. We have two smaller rugs in front of each sink (the long arm of the L) and one large rug in the shower area. When our bathroom was a large rectangle we just had the large one in the middle of the room.

Good topic. hee. I have a rug hanging over the side of the tub which has matching guest towels.

There's a solid color rug for the toilet because there's ceramic tile around the toilet and it gets cold there. I also have a matching toilet seat cover.

Just one, in front of the tub and toilet.

I bought two of the same rug, though, so that I (almost) always have a clean one ready to swap out.

We have two more bathrooms being remodeled, and I will definitely do the same for the teenagers full bath, too.

I only use one rug in any of our baths. Something in front of the sink(s). Mainly for looks. With a basement, we do not have a problem with cold floors. We have the bath mats (like heavy towels) that I put our if necessary. (Which I think is what you must mean Oakley instead of an actual rug over your tub?)

This is just my personal preference, but I will never, ever have rugs around the toilet base (or lid covers).

As it's only two adults here, I can go with a nice rug for the baths. (By that I mean more decorative, not something necessarily for the bath.)

Master Bath: we have four~ one in front of each sink that are matching, one in front of our shower, and one in our toilet closet. We have a large spa tub, but I just pull the shower's rug over when I use the tub. That one is more of a nice looking bath mat than a rug.
Second Bath: one in front of sink and a matching one in front of shower.
Powder Room: one in front of sink.
None of my bathrooms have toilet seat covers or toilet base/wrap-around rugs.
None of my towels match the rugs, they just pick up the main colors in the room.

    None.

Thanks for all the detailed responses. It sounds like it's a matter of personal preference combined with utility and does not follow a standard of any type.

Three in the full bathroom (one in front of tub, one @ vanity, and one @ toilet), but our bathroom is a "bowling alley" with freezing-cold floors. Eventually they'll be replaced with a pretty runner but that's quite a ways down the road. I have rubber backed ones I bought about 6 years ago from KMart's Maaaaahthah ;-) line and they're holding up very well to machine washing and air drying, no crumbling backings or fading. The half bath has a small rug by the sink and one of those awful contour rugs in front of the toilet but they were quite nice rugs for free so I wasn't going to complain! LOL I did throw the accompanying "toilet seat beret" in a Goodwill box though.

Tina, maybe it is a bath mat and not a rug. I've always called them rugs. lol. It's decorative and has rubber backing, which is why I don't leave it on the floor.

Also, it's just DH and myself and it's very rarely used, but I find them to not only be pretty, but practical.

In my masterbath I have a rug in front of the combo tub/shower, and smaller rugs in front of each sink and in front of the toilet. The one in front of the toilet is nice, it keeps the tile clean there and is comfortable on the feet. It's very easy to throw in the wash. I know this sounds like a lot of rugs but they are the same color as the floor and blend somewhat.

The other bath has a large rug that is in front of the tub and toilet and a smaller one in front of the sink.

Oakley, what I am referring to as a mat - is the heavier towel type mat - no backing of any kind. It is not meant to be left on the floor.

Mine's a rug, I just looked it up.

For the Master, we have one of these under each sink, and one in the toilet area of the bathroom.

I use a thick bath mat - on a hook next to the shower - for a bath mat.

For the guest baths, I have a rug under the single sink, and a runner under the double sinks.
