Purple, black, violet, ivory and toile....sick?

So, I've always loved a gorgeous lavendar room but I'm a gold girl so I've never done one. I got to thinking, all of the pretty black and white prints I've collected, some toile, some silk...i'm drawn to ivory and black and black and white and I could finally do a room in those colors as a guest room. We have one large room that includes a window seat full of pillows (so I could use my prints) as well as a queen bed sleeping area and a large sitting area. I have a black organ body in the parlor I could take up for display of some mulburry and black and white transferware maybe....

The trim is painted white so I'd paint it a really fabulous rick dark purple like F&B's Pelt. It's a ery light filled room...I might paint the floor black (it's servant's quarters so painted floors are appropriate.

So I need a violet that leans to the gray without being drab. Any ideas???? And if you've used these colors in a room can you share? I'd love inspiration! It's important that the room be victorian inspired, unpretentious, comfortable for a man and a woman or one or the other as it's our best guest room, and not dreary!

Umm then what to do with the bathroom adjacent???? :oP

It all sounds wonderful to me Igloochic. I love an amethyst color so I'll be watching the progress you make. I found a bed and breakfast that had a lavender room, check it out.

This is not victorian but it gives three purple colors. Check the ceiling out in constrast to the walls.
This room is REALLY purple, yikes.

Igloo, if you like purple check out this amazing toile on ebay. I have been thinking about getting it to cover two wing chairs but may not be enough.

Sounds like a great idea! I recently started liking purple. I'm excited to see how it turns out.

We stayed in a lovely purple room in a bed and breakfast in the Poconos. It would have benefitted from the blacks and greys you plan to have kept it from being so feminine. Everything was purple and white and lace and knicknacks. Over the top for sure! I kept thinking that I'd hate to dust that room! LOL!

I'm sorry to get back to this so late....hard day in toy town (which is what DS calls our house lately). I adore the samples posted :) And live wire....that comment about needing the black and grey is a biggie....thanks. I don't want any of our guest rooms to scream "chic" :) I actually love this victorian because it's masculine and so many aren't. It's so easy to take them into the lacy hell we call B*B land LOL

I'm a big plaid and stripe lover so most of my wonderful fabrics are those, and I also have some gorgeous ivory silk with black monkeys and palms or something...fun stuff that I can dress up but also keep manly at the same time (hold back on the lace LOL)

Some of those plums are fabulous. I love deep rich color and despite the low ceilings in these rooms (they're the old servants quarters in the attic) they're beyond light with big windows and this one room I want to do has skylights as well (yes they're not victorian but they're there so I'm leaving them).

I would toy with a soft lilac ceiling, rich plum trim (it's already painted and I'm too lazy to strip it) and gray walls....Black floors.

I have to tell you...I'm planning this in my head because I'm trying to avoid finishing the dining room which I'm painting after removing the wallpaper. The ceiling is a deep and old gold (almost a green gold if that makes sense, it's a made up color). The walls are between avacodo and olive :) (another made up color LOL) and the picture rail dado is in deep brick/burgundy? Ok I'm just odd LOL

I have to finish this week...and inbetween finishing I need to adopt a child, buy a refridgerator, clean the house and umm do 400 loads of laundry (we moved the laundry room to the house this week...I'm so excited LOL).

Purple and black is so much easier to think about LOL thanks for the beautiful inspiration. I have it in my head and it always helps to pull it out here on GW :)

Here's a picture that maybe someone could tweak in PS to experiment w/ better shades of purple & add some black & cream elements:

The rich, dark plums are stunning. If you are looking for a lighter violet that leans toward grey... our dining room is Benjamin Moore 1447 Amethyst Sky. It kind of changes color (more or less purple) depending on time of day. We really like it.

It's at the far end of this shot but I think you get the idea:

My bedroom is a lilac (looks pink in the picture) with black furniture and toile bedding (from JCP).

Here's the small master bath in the same color.

Next time we paint I think we will stay with purple, but chose a darker shade.
