I have to pick a waterline tile color. Please help!

We have to pick a waterline tile by next weekend. We are looking at dark brown slate colors(rust) or tans. We have picked Carribean Blue as our Pebble Tec. I would love to see close up pictures of installed waterline tile of these colors. The only thing we know is that we don't want blue. Our neighbors have almost the same pool design as us and have a beige tile. We would like ours different so we are leaning towards a rust color. Please help! Send pics.

Pebbletec makes waterline tiles that coordinate with their products. If I get a chance I will take a picture of ours today. I like it- they are neutral. We have tahoe blue pebble tec but I can't remember the name of the tile...I'll find it though.

When did Pebble Technology, Inc., start offering their own tile? It's not mentioned anywhere on their web site. Are you certain that it isn't your pool builder who carries a particular line of tile that coordinates well with the Pebble Technology products?

Pebble tec does have tiles. No, it's not on their website yet, though. They are a new product. Our friend is a pebbletec distributor. He gave us a brochure- and it is not online yet. Your licensed Pebbletec distributor should have one for you. I am looking at the brochure right now- it's calle "Finishing Touches Tile Collection." The ones we chose were from the Shoreline Collection- they have three colors in 6 X 6- all are neutral- one is gray, one is tan and one is in-between. We got the one that is in between but I can't remember the name- I tore the page out to show the installer what color grout to use. They also offer glass tile. But yes, there is "Pebble Tec" right on the cover. They are very natural looking- we are very pleased with the outcome. They ship from Arizona- didn't take too long at all to get to Atlanta. If you are in Atlanta- Olympic Pool Plastering serves our area for Pebbletec and can give you a brochure- they also gave us samples.

From another thread but perhaps others would be interested- I was able to find a reference to the tile line that Pebbletec now offers on PebbleTec's page...perhaps you can send for the brochure that I have. We have the tiles and are very happy with the natural look. They offer several different sizes and colors, as well as glass. It's not a huge selection but for us it really solved our problem- we wanted a neutral tile that would complement the pebbletec but not take away from it.

i think we were going for a similar look as you, something natural, no blue tile? we had our pool renovated last month, i didn't know pebbletec made tile, oh well! we love our tile though, picked a dark taupe/grey textured tile to go with the darker stones in our pebbletec and we love the natural look. pool company kept pushing us to blue, we are sooooo glad we did not go blue, would have clashed with the rustic look of our pool.

here's a link with our photos, and one of the photos has a good shot of the pool and tile pre-fill. we love how the dark wile just "disappears" and doesn't compete with the pebbletec now that it's full.

be sure to post your photos when you're done

Gina that looks great! Our Pebbletec tile is very similar but maybe a little smoother. I also love the natural look. I do have a picture that has my waterline tile- but I cannot post it! And no, they do not offer a blue tile- not in 6 X 6 but they do have small blue tiles in a line called 'geometric collection.'

Well, I am now reconsidering my original color choice of dark rust/brown. My husband thinks because of the hard water out here in Tucson that we will see the waterline stain more then on a lighter beige tile. I love the look of gina171's pool with the dark tile. Do you have hard water stains on your tile Gina? Dapooltec, Do you advise your clients to pick light color tiles? We are getting our tiles from Noble Tile supply.

gnlinaz: we also have super hard water here in atlanta. i don't have any scale/calcium line developing, and we were told that as long as we use 1 qt. of scale inhibitor each month, we would have no issue with scale accumulation. my tile is also very rough textured, so it would seem likely to develop on my tile, since it is not slick at all. but so far, no problems, and we love, love, love the look.

we have a Dolphin robotic cleaner, which we use 2-3 times a week to vacuum/sweep the pool, and one of the things it does really well is scrub/wipe along the water line with its rubber bristles/flaps. so we're not scrubbing it by hand either (we try to keep things waaaay low maintenance). if you are choosing between a Polaris cleaner and a Dolphin robotic i would highly recommend the robotic cleaners. no booster pumps to break (we went through 3 booster pumps in 6 years with our old Polaris), and you'll never need to brush your pool either, the robotic cleaners have bristles and do that along with the tile line.

gina171-We are getting the MDX in floor cleaning system. From what I understand (which is very limited right now) we will not need a dolphin. We will have to brush the tiles of the pool every so often. Was the Polaris an in floor system?
