Window Trim Next to Crown Molding Staining ?

I have previously stripped/stained window trim, so know the work involved. My question is in our Master Bedroom, I want to strip/stain one window as another window is also stained, and DH would not be happy if I painted it. The room is on our main floor, and all the other windows and bottom trim pieces are stained, and I would like this room to match...I especially don't want 1 stained window and 1 painted window!

The problem is the top window trim piece is in line with the upper crown molding pieces. I don't have the gumption to strip and stain the upper crown molding, and it wouldn't match the rest of the house anyway.

Is it okay to have that white(ish) trim but up to a stained window? Would it look extremely odd? I have a bedroom set coming in on Wednesday, and the bed almost has to go below this smaller window. I really don't think I would like it still being white.

Honest opinions please :)

Just my opinion - all painted trim or all stained trim.

And of course as soon as I type that, along comes a photo that proves I am wrong! Look at sashasmommy's photo in this thread:

Here is a link that might be useful: stained trim, painted windows

I did see sashamommy's post Although her windows are painted, and the trim is above or below the window. It can't be all or nothing in the room because we already have a stained picture window. I guess if I hate it stained with the trim painted, I could move the trim up, but that sounds like a LOT of work!!!

I think the reason the room in that link works is because the dark molding is picked up on the fireplace and also on the painted windows. I am not so sure I would like the stained window trim right next to your painted crown. Do you have a picture of the stained trim window? That is really what I think we need to see in order to offer an opinion, although I tend to prefer painted trim and consistency one way or the other.

In your case I would keep everything the same color and just paint the window frame.

Thanks for the photo. Am curious to know why the crown molding is not at the top of the wall?

If all the windows are stained, and all the trim is painted, I think you are fine. As long as it follows a pattern, that is ok. There was another thread earlier about doors and paint vs stain and I think the conclusion was the same. If all the bedroom doors are one finish and the closets another, it is ok to mix.
Just come up with a plan, follow it and you will be ok. There is no "one size fits all" here.
Personally, I think stained trim can be lovely, but sometimes it can also be overload. I think having some stained and some painted may be the best of both worlds.

    Thanks dianlo,
I am in the process of stripping the window trim and baseboard trim (and closet and entry door trim). If I hate the look when it is done, I can either move the trim up, replacing the window section with new trim, or strip/stain the upper trim, but I think that will be overload. The other rooms do look really nice with stained trim, and white upper trim.
