Need some feedback on BM Palace White

I've finally accepted that an off-white is going to be my best bet in my open (vaulted ceilings) living room/dining room and hallway that all basically flows together. It's not a vast space, but there are a range of lighting conditions and I have to throw that all in the mix.

Right now my front runner is BM Palace White (956 in the Classic Colors fan deck, and OC-100 on the store strip). I like it. It has a little more richness than some of the other OWs I'm considering. I have a large swatch I'm constantly moving around, and I generally get an "ah" feeling wherever I place it. My main concern is how yellow it reads, particularly with all walls this color.

Any experience/feedback out there for Palace White?

I do not have any experience with BM paints, however, I have used SW Antique White and it is THE most beautiful and creamy off-white I have ever seen. It is absolutely rich and yummy! We used it on all of our trim, baseboards and crown moulding when we built our new home.

The best pictures I've seen of this color recently is in a wonderful blog called 'Southern Hospitality'. Check out the link below and scroll down through the pictures of her beautiful home 'til you get to her dining room. She just recently painted it SW Antique White. It is absolutely classy and gorgeous! Here are a few pictures.....

Here's a comparison between the two. BM Palace White is on the left and SW Antique White is on the right.

Thanks, Scarlet. That's a beautiful shade and how gorgeous is that dining room! I just happen to have that SW strip and I pick up a touch of green in it, which is okay. I've got a dark red and brown rug, red oak floors and the rest is dark woods, and I just don't know how much gold/yellow I can handle. And to me, anything that light with any red is gonna look pink/flesh, right?

My master bedroom is Palace White and no, it won't read too yellow or gold. It's really very close to the pix above...more pale beige, very neutral and easy to work with. It does pick up more pale golden tones at night with lamps but is very pretty and warm.

Depending upon your exposure and the amount of natural light you get it's an interesting tone as it changes a lot throughout the day...in a "good way".

Jant, thanks so much for weighing in! It's so much warmer than other whites with similar LRVs. I get a wide range of light in this space, from direct sun in my east-facing dining room, to not much at all in my west-facing living room (shade trees outside). Even my existing drab KM Frost walls warm up nicely at night with lamps on, so I'm expecting more of that from a more inherently warm shade.

Just curious, Jant...what kind of natural light does your MBR get?

Just picked up a sample of SW Antique White. Love it! This might be the one. VERY similar to Palace White on my swatch and wall sample, but more neutral (teensy green read to me), whereas PW def. has more gold/red. It's so subtle I can't believe I'm even drawing distinctions. :)

Linelle, I'm glad you like it. It is just scrumptious! I really do love it. I had always thought of it as a trim or ceiling color but now I just adore it for use as a wall color. If you decide to go with it, PLEASE show us your 'after' pictures!!!

My painter called and he wants to start on the 19th. Eeeek! I will be so glad to have this behind me, although I'll probably feel bereft, as it's occupied my thoughts unceasingly. Nah, I'll be glad when it's over.

Still on the fence with SW Antique White and BM Palace White. I can barely see the difference, but I can, and I continue to ponder.

I try to set up my swatches in unexpected places and stay away from them for a bit...so I can encounter them with a somewhat neutral mind and just allow myself to feel it rather than to be constantly analyzing.

Scarlet, thanks for your encouragement. I'll def. take after pics.

Linelle, did you get your painting done? What color did you finally go with? Can you post pictures?

I have used 956 in every house I've ever lived in and I could eat it it's so beautiful.

I love it, too, megsy! I've got it in my office and guest bedroom. It looks so pretty late in the day as the sun's setting. So warm with a hint of gold without being overt at all.

I use it as a trim color too, btw.

Have you considered Monroe Bisque for the walls? It's another glorious color that I love. It's in the historical collection but I can't recall its number offhand. (My fandeck's in the other room and I'm too lazy to get up). It's two off from Shelburne Buff, which I know is HC-28.

My house *just* got painted, so it'll be a while before anything changes around here. I gave my painter his BM fandeck back, so I'm suddenly out of the loop now that I have my colors on the wall. And I'm kinda ready to stop thinking about paint for a while. :)

Oh dear I hadn't realized this wasn't a current thread! My apologies.

We're currently under painteration and I'm dying to get my house back in order.

Linelle, any pictures of the BM Palace White in your office and guest bedroom? After my deadline, I want to repaint my home office from Linen White to something warm and neutral but with a little more color that won't clash with my Putty Cabinets and my Cherry furniture.

Hi Lynn. Sorry this pic is just a partial wall. Nothing else (in the background) had been painted at that point. I really like Palace White. I ended up going with Antique White in the larger living area, but it was more a coin flip to decide...I like both. I have a mish mash of wood tones in my office, the darkest of which could loosely be called cherry-ish and I don't see any clashing. This color's really pretty in the late afternoon (office faces west). I have a white ceiling and it looks good, but I believe the same color on the ceiling would also look good.

That color looks lovely! Great choice...

Linelle, I love the BM Palace White on your walls with the white trim! I am now considering this color for my low light home office room. Thank you! The sample board is very pretty.

Which do you like better the BM Palace White or the SW Antique White? I am considering them both for my home office with bright white trim and doors.

I think next year I am going to get rid of the three taupe colored (neutral in the day time but at night the taupe design in the off-white blinds makes the blinds look dirty and gray) double honeycomb (wish were single honeycomb to let in more light) top-down/bottom-up blinds with long strings that keep tangling that I have been living with for about 4 years and have disliked the blinds ever since they went in my home office three windows. It was the worst $900 I spent (Alta Blinds ... a division of Hunter Douglas ... bought from Budget Blinds... never went back to him since he did not tell me to test a sample at night or that the strings would be so long they would touch the floor ... wish I got retractible cords). The other windows I love all of my blinds since I learned to get samples to look at in different lighting situations and at night. All my blinds needed to be replaced since they fell off the windows so I had to make decisions and I tried my best.

I know if the blinds were off of the windows and were more white, I would love every color on the wall. So maybe I should disregard them for now knowing I will save and next year get something different despite the cost. Unless a different paint color other than the BM Linen White makes them look better to me and I can live with them a a few more years.
