Fabric Diet? What Fabric Diet?

Thought it was time to check in with my fellow fabric dieters...

Well...as you can probably guess...I have bought fabric over the past week. Here comes my justification(s). I bought the fabric for the Stack and Whack class this weekend. Only needed 2 1/2 because of the small repeat and it could have been worse, could have been double that. I love the fabric. Got a 1/2 yard of a springy lime green print and 1 yard of a loon fabric that is selling very quickly (got these just because). On my way out of the shop (literally) saw the perfect border for the S & W so got that.

Then...the new shop near us opened. Since two guild members are running it, had to show my support. Just got two neutrals - 1 yard of each- that I can use for just about anything.

Times have been stressful with work this week. So I am going even further with my excuses to say that I medically needed to buy this fabric. I will finish my treatment plan by buying fats for my summertime swap partner at yet another shop tomorrow after work!

So, now, would you like to share?

There's just no use in saying I'm on a fabric diet but I have been good (make that better than usual) since I'm trying to cut down the spending to save up for Houston in November.

I did fall off the wagon two weeks ago and spent about $140 at the quilt shop in Panama City and I didn't even go! My friend went for a class, called me about this fabulous fabric that we had started a collection from the last trip and they got in more colors. So I had to have those plus 4 yards of different greens. Okay, my stash doesn't have near enough greens. What am I supposed to do?

    I'm hopeless. Next.

Well, I got most of my stash free from the thrift shop so I was determined not to buy much until I used that. I even went to the sale at Elenore Burns site and didn't buy anything because they didn't have anything I wanted for that particular quilt! But... a few days later I thought of another quilt and went back to the sale and they had sooo much stuff that would work with that quilt! I ended up getting 10 yards!. I made the mistake of going back that night and looking at that fabric again just to double check what I got and they had even more fabric in the sale sooo I ended up getting 6 more yards! Dumb thing! Got stuck with two shippings!
I am officially going to join you on your diet!

(I got the first order yesterday and the fabric is perfect and a lovely quality so it will get used)

I have no excuses. I am a fabric addict. The only way I have been able to control it is to completely avoid fabric shops of all kinds. I only got 2 yards at the quilt shop in Alaska, would have bought more, but no room in the suitcase. I will have to go to a fabric store this weekend to get some pieces to complete some tops I am working on. I also have worked extra hours this week and have some money to spend. I can already feel the fabric calling my name. .....

I've been pretty good lately - spent more than I should on other stuff lately, so fabric purchases have been strictly "as needed" to work on current projects. However - - one of my quilting buddies is moving out-of-state soon, and going through her stash, and the garage sale is June 30 - and she has similar tastes in fabric and quilts as me - it will be a real test. I won't be able to go to her garage sale due to another committmemt, but she's offered to let me come over the evening before to see if I want anything. Can't let a friend down, can I?

Well...the Sewing Studio was having a sale last weekend, so I went up there Sat. morning, and...you know what happened! But I really do NEED all that fabric, right?

Maybe I can have DH build storage shelves along the outer walls of my house and I can at least claim it's insulation!

Okay ladies, the following will tell you exactly why it is difficult to go on a fabric diet!! Liz

    A Recent Study

A recent study indicated that fabric gives off certain Pheromones that actually hypnotize women and cause them to purchase unreasonable amounts. When stored in large quantities in enclosed spaces, the pheromones (in the fabric) cause memory loss and induce the nesting syndrome (similar to the one squirrels have before the onset of winter), therefore perpetuating their species, and not having a population loss due to their kind being cut into pieces and mixed with others.

Sound tests have also revealed that these fabrics emit a very high-pitched sound, heard only by a select few, a breed of women known as "Quilters." When played backwards on a LP, the sounds are heard as chants, "buy me, cut me, and sew me!!

In order to overcome the so called "feeding frenzy effect" that these fabrics cause, one must wear a face mask when entering a storage facility and use ear plugs to avoid being pulled into their grip. Studies have also indicated that aliens have inhabited the earth, helping to spread the effects that these
fabrics have on human population. They are called Fabric Store Clerks!!

It's also been experienced that these same Pheromones cause a pathological need to hide these fabric purchases when taken home (or at least blend them into the existing stash), and when asked by the "significant other" if the fabric is new, the reply is "I've had it for awhile."

MSmeow: Insulation! ROFL Oh, hey, DH here has been talking about insulating our attic...Now, I wonder...?

On that plan at Rosie's where you buy a certain amount every month and then in June and Dec. get 25% off on a single shopping trip, I "saved" $56. I prefer to think of it that way; anyone who wants to know how much I *paid* can do the math! LOL (But I'll be reimbursed for a lot of that by a friend who ordered a quilt from me.) Can't go on a fabric diet because I have to buy something there every month, --not necessarily fabric, so this month's shopping spree included a nice big ruler, too. But I (virtuous face) do try to go only once a month and to already have in mind what I really need or can often use, which lessens the temptations. I recently added Glue-Baste-It to that list. It is saving me so much pinning on the Peek-a-Boo I am making now.

Oh, let's admit it: fabric is a great mood-altering substance! Addictive, but not so expensive that you have to go out and steal to buy more, and not illegal or fattening!

I fell off recently. *sighs* I don't even have my sewing machine! I bought four different fabrics for the I-spy swap, and... too much of each.

And when I bought FQs for the summertime swap... well... I bought some more for me, too. But the stripes were SO PRETTY!!!

Maybe we should just give some second thoughts to this "fabric diet" thing - who needs more guilt?

Hello...my name is Wanda...and I'm a quilting and fabric addict. I can't help myself and really don't want anyone else to help me. I like being an addict! Fabric Diet???? Me???? Never happen!!!!

Besides, if I had been on a fabric diet, I totally blew it today. Joann's had a sale and I had coupons......

I'm like Wanda, I just got back from JoAnn's..I was disappointed by not being able to use all my coupons but I sure did some damage...And by the way, they have alot of Christmas fabric, not on sale and I think they also raised the price, but some of it came home with me.....No fabric or any other diet here....
