New York State Home Inspection info

For those who may be buying or selling in NYS now or in the future, the NYS Home Inspection Licensing board has finally proposed regulations governing the standards of practice and the code of ethics for the NYS HI's...

Some of this might change...but as of now, the regs very closely mirror NJ as well as those of the major home inspection professional organizations with a few exceptions...so this will give you an excellent idea of what to expect or not expect from a home inspection in NY.

However, the language actually seems to restrict the HI from offering ANY ancillary service that is beyond the scope of a home inspection (such as septic, radon, wood destroying insect, etc) even if the HI is licensed in that discipline or has the proper training, education and experience...which is very unusual...so my guess is that there will be an amendment to the regs to allow such...

But for now, happy reading...
