Perils of selling; my son got locked in the bathroom for 3 hours

Poor kid. We had taken the doorknobs off to paint the doors. The only door left unpainted was the one going into the main bathroom.

DS stayed up late to watch a movie, then at 12:00 am went to use the restroom before bed. He didn't realize that if he pulled the door all the way shut, he'd have no way to open it.

When he tried to leave the bathroom, he realized his dilemma. There was no way out, and with a family of SOUND sleepers, he figured he'd have to work it out on his own. He said he tried for at least 30 minutes to get out. He tried using some decorative twigs I had in there to pry the door open. No go. Then he tried using the stems of the fake greenery I had in there. While rather MacGyver-ish, it still wouldn't work.

Then he found his sister's Gameboy that had been left in there (????) and played that until the batteries died. Then he tried putting the bathroom rug in the bathtub and sleeping. He said he fell asleep for about 30 minutes, and woke up with a panic and said "I've gotta get out of here!".

He tore the bathroom apart a little more and found the arm of someone's old glasses (What????????? There's only one person in our family who even *wears* glasses and his weren't broken!) and finally was able to use that piece to work the door open. That was at 3:00 am.

Chalk it up to the perils of selling, I guess.
