Are You Getting a Real Christmas Tree or Artificial Tree This Year?
Comments (190)My choice is definitely an artificial tree. But I don't think they last any longer than real ones. Virtually every year my husband of 38 years goes downstairs to bring up last year's tree. Then he comes back up a couple of hours later, empty-handed, sadly shaking his head, and explaining why we need to buy a new tree. The 1,000 lights are the usual suspects. Although the manufacturer swears if one burns out the rest will remain lit, you know doggone well he deserves coal in his stocking. Sometimes the cause is a combination of entire sections of burned out lights and impossible-to-identify colored tips that are key to the assembly of the prickly little beast that seals its fate. Judging from the six human-body-sized, bulging boxes in our storage room we've amassed an impressive collection of at least six full-sized trees. My sweet, well-intentioned hubby, who works 80-hour weeks, has vowed annually to donate the old trees to charity, but his intentions seldom make it upstairs these days, which has a lot to do with our son, our only child, being a Marine. He doesn't talk about it. Like most men, he holds everything in so tightly, he clamps down on his lower lip with his front teeth to keep his feelings from popping out. Perhaps he opens up to his kindred spirits, the lonely trees, while he's downstairs pondering their fate. I hope so. I've begun looking forward to our annual trek to Home Depot to "chop down" our newest artificial tree from their pile of boxes. Our son got leave this year. I pray he makes it home safely. He'll be home with us and with his little girl. I can't imagine needing anything brighter than the lights in my granddaughter's five-year-old eyes. But Grampa will surely pick out a shiny new tree, with 1,000 blinking white lights, guaranteed to remain lit even if one burns out, by a person destined to receive coal in his or her stocking. Comments (252)Love magic Opener very much, at first, is tricky to know and use all it's functions properly but after understanding it better and using it several times, became a top helper to open all our pull tab food cans, small and large soda plastic bottles, aluminum beer and soda cans, water bottles, regular beer glass bottle, among other functions. We have it on top of our best gadgets list, and we use it as occasional special gifts as well. It is a very unique gadget. Comments (65)Our Christmas day springs to life right out of the movies. After watching the 1953 Alistar Sims version of Scrooge, A Christmas Story marathon will begin. I do not ever think I have seen it all the way through, lol. Since my husband has worked the last several Christmases we took our cue from the movie. We either eat out or get take home Chinese Food. Fra rah rah. After reading our fortune cookies we scratch lottery tickets by the Leg lamp light;) The night winds up on a sweet note with my homemade best ever childhood memory Christmas cookies. I use to launch the tree out the door at midnight but as I got older it just doesn't seem like a rush to do anymore. I now wait until the light of the next day;) Merry Christmas and FRA RAH RAH !!!...See MoreWhen is the last time you tried a new recipe?
Comments (68)there is far more to it than they say. I am lucky enough to feel the differences. my husband is one of many who feel no difference. it is a highly individual thing and one thing they do not tell you is that you often do not get things because you have diabetes you have diabetic symptoms because you have other problems. my hubby is the sick one so i used to check myself out on his monitor. never any problem. one day i get this terrible pain in my shoulder. we end up at the hospital and i have an infection on my lung sack. before i leave a nurse gives me this stern lecture that i have had diabetes for at least 6 months. i am highly indignant. go home try to figure it out. 2 months later, no probs. 3 years later, they are trying to give me a test and again I am above range? turns out i have cancer. during my surgery etc my blood sugar hit 800s, i am intubated and the woman came every day to tell my sugar is off, i am like would that not be your problem? Drs did not bat an eye. 4 months later symptoms are gone. I am doing well now and am about to go off my metformin. but i also have learned things, like for me, cheese can not be my only protein for dinner, especially with a starch. So the lesson from me is that many times, if you have a reasonable diet? Look to other illness for the problem. take it as a sign that you have a problem. kidney stones had it again. when i take care of the problem it goes away. Also what works for one does not work for all. someone i know was cured with cinnamon, neither my hubby or i had any difference. donuts make me want to spin! i eat regular pasta no problem - but to make sure we got more veggie we now put shredded spinach in our spaghetti sauce. i use one slice of bread with my sandwich but that is more on salt. each slice is 10%, not to mention the cheese and ugh the coldcut. I have to watch the fluid in my body due to my damaged lungs. I think as we age we are more sensitive and we need to be more careful....See Morefearlessem
