* Info for about NewHomeBuilder room colors

I received an email from someone from this board today and wanted to reply here, instead of replying to the email because so many others have asked the same question.

I am not sure how my email address was obtained. Is that easy to do?

Anyway, to S.A. - I hope you see this:

My dining room color is BM Wethersfield Moss and my kitchen (and most all other rooms in my house) is BM Decatur Buff. :)

Just wanted to answer the question about the e-mail.

If you click on My Page and then See My Journal, you arrive at a link called Send newhomebuilder an Email.

GardenWeb will forward the e-mail to you, and the person sending it does not see your e-mail address unless you reply to them.

    Does that help?

Thanks, but I am not seeing that when I click on my name. When I tried yours, an option appears to send you an email, but the option is available before I click on See My Journal.

Newhomebuilder, I clicked on See My Journal and then Send newhomebuilder an Email and it actually showed your email address there. I just changed my preferences because I didn't realize how transparent my email address was!

I just looked at my preferences and I have not allowed (checked off to let anyone see) my email to be shown, so I wonder how it is showing up?

How did you change your preferences...maybe there is another way that I am not seeing.

I clicked on the link at the very bottom of the page, Member Services, then clicked on Edit Personal Information...

    I hope that helps, Newhomebuilder!

That's where I was looking, too. I left everything unchecked and where it says if I want to share my email, I left it at NONE. Is that correct?

I wonder if it was a glitch. I just tried again and this time I didn't see your email (and it didn't give me the option to send you an email).

Maybe just re-doing it, helped. Since yesterday, I have checked several member profiles on here and can't find a single email address.

I hope that S.A. sees this thread.

Newhomebuilder: I found this thread on your paint colors. Thank you so much. Your home is stunning. Sorry, did not intend to invade your privacy, but your email address was there. Thanks again

    I'm glad this thread resurfaced.

I've sent about three unsolicited emails I think. One was to ask about a paint color months ago, one lately to rave about someone who used Craigs List finds and other older furniture in her home which is sooo beautiful and I forget the other one.

I always apologize for any inconvenience but thought if you had a link to email, then it wasn't an invasion of privacy. I have my email enabled but understand those who don't wish to be contacted that way.

Is there any way to have clarification on this matter or is one left to assume?

Parma is right. If you can click on someone's name and there is a link that says "Send me an email" that means that you can email that party through Garden Web. When you start typing your email into the box provided, the box will say "From blah-blah's email address". That means, that the party you email will now have YOUR email address and can choose to reply to you personally, rather than through the GW site. And....if the party does choose to reply to your email addy, THEN, their email address will display to you.

For example, my own email address does NOT show when you go to "redbazel's member page". That's because I clicked show to "none" when I set my preferences. I think if you had clicked show to "member" when you first set your preferences, (which you may have done since the wording is very unclear) then, if another GW member had clicked on your name, your email addy would have shown.

I guess that there could be on this very lovely site, some Crazy Spamming Fool that sits on GW all day to send the members various pieces of spam garbage but for the most part, I don't think it's a huge big deal. And when a GW member sends me an email, (I've had emails this past month from 3 different people on all kinds of subjects) I have almost always answered if they put "GW" or "about your dumb question on Decorating" or something like that in the subject line of the email. That at least lets me know that it's a GW member. I don't freak out that I got an email. I'm registered on Ebay and Craigslist too, and neither spot can give out my email addy, but I still receive messages from those boards and their members. Once I 'choose' to reply, then, of course, they have my email address.

Poor NHB..........she thought she was starting a thread where we could all finally have her paint colors, but all of us got distracted.

Thanks so much for the colors NHB, love your kitchen and have it saved, at least the one photo I came across. If you have an album somewhere I'd love to see everything. :)

I assume you can't search by member name for all posts, like on other boards? Or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

I get emails from members, and it doesn't phase me. I generally answer directly, too. I use multiple email addresses for different purposes and have no problem giving out my hotmail addy to just about anyone. However, one thing to know if you are trying to contact someone directly is your email will likely end up in their junk folder - unless they are in the habit of checking those and sifting through, it might get tossed out without being read. Just so you know, if you don't get an answer, don't take it personally - they may not have seen it. If that's the case try giving a shout out here to them directly.

gagesgranny - No problem! It just surprised me to see an email from someone I didn't know. Spam threats are out there, and since I didn't think I had given access to my email address, I was being cautious. Glad you saw this thread. :)

mpwdmom - I hope you saw the thread I posted today about my kitchen.

Like Red, I also get emails from time to time and don't mind answering one bit though I am not always reading my Yahoo account daily. I have a different private email for more personal correspondence and like to keep it that way so I don't get SPAM. I know in the Kitchen's Forum members don't like too many redundent threads going on as then the old ones (which may contain valuable information) are deleted by GW or alternatively, get frustrated wading through trival, off topic, repetitive threads though I've never read that sentiment on this forum. I can see why someone would think it would be proper net-etiquite to direct a question to an individual poster via email over posting it here. Personally I am fine with either method.
