I need a little footstool/table thingie...

So we have this seating area off our kitchen; some of you might remember that we recently added a yummy blue mohair chair. When I sit on that chair, if I have a drink, I put it on the end of the console table under the painting. If I put my feet up, I use the metal coffee table. The table isn't very comfortable under my bare feet, and sometimes putting my drink on the console table is a little awkward. I've been looking around for some sort of little... thing... like a very small ottoman or a very small round end table... that could be moved around in this space as needed for either a drink or feet. I considered one of those tree stumps that are trendy now. I think it was Overstock where I saw a black one that I thought might work. West Elm has them too, but jeez, $200 for a tree stump. Crate & Barrel has a cute metal ottoman/table that is about the right size, but I think I have enough metal now. The stool/table would have to be pretty small, like 12-14" diameter, maybe 16-18" high? Any ideas? You guys are usually good about coming up with ideas that make me say "doh, why didn't I think of that?" Also, can't be super heavy as I see it as something can/will be moved around a lot.

Check Kirkland Home, they may have something you'd like.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I too have been looking for a small table to put by a chair in our living room. The idea of something from a consignment store is appealing to me and although I've seen some really beautiful tables, I haven't found "the one" for us. But a second hand piece in good condition could do very well in the room.

Sueb- could you tell me what color paint is in your room. I'm looking for something just like it for my guest room bath. Your kitchen and sitting room is gorgeous

I love ceramic garden stools for stuff like this. You can easily move them around, put your feet on them, your drink on them, you can even sit on them!

It might be too big for your space, but I bought a leather cube at Crate and Barrel. The seat also came off and there was storage inside, so a little bonus there. The top is a flat cushion, but you could put a tray on top if you wanted to put a drink on it and put it beside the chair. At the time I bought it about a year ago, it came in about 4 colors. Mine is deep red, but I'm fairly certain it came in black and a couple of other colors.

Could you make your own stump? I get excited when I see people cutting down trees... all those logs!
Pottery barn has a basket that would be perfect, I wish I had a place for it. It goes on sale often enough to 79.

Patty, thanks! It's River Gorge Gray (Ben Moore). We just painted it recently.

Hmmmm... How about this guy from Viva Terra?

Check out the options in the link below.
And remember that you can add locking casters to most pieces.

    How about this.

Thanks everyone. I looked at Ballard, didn't find the right thing.
Yaya, that's a cute table but that's end table height and I'm looking for something that I could also put my feet on, if possible.

Bumble, I loooove that basket. Not sure if works for this idea, but now I'm looking around to see if I have a spot for it!

How about this outdoor table? Not entirely sure I like the color of the legs but I could paint or stain them? I don't think it looks too outdoorsy.

This goes against my "no more than one Pottery Barn item per room" rule, but I like it...

Okay, last one for this morning! Can you tell I just had my coffee?

I love, love, this wacky little stool, but I don't like the whitewashed finish. Can I paint this type of wood, do you think?

In our LR all of the end tables are very tall so after reading a tip about 'layering tables' I recently pulled up a square leather ottoman on DH's side that I found at a local thrift shop and upstairs in our bedrooom I repurposed an old piano stool as extra 'table' space for my magazines and remote. Mine is black but I saw in an issue of Domino where they painted one bright orange and it was great!

Are you one that will 'thrift it'? You could probably find something cheap and customize it w/ paint for your wonderful place!

What about a small pouf, like Privet House at Targetî's Neutral Rope Pouf? You could even tuck it under your console table when not in use.

Also...paging you for help in JockEwings recent thread.
    Thanks!

Do you have a Home Goods near you? I got a squared-off tree stump table there about a month ago for about $60. It's the same idea as the DWR on in the link below, but not quite as nice. It has more variation of light-to-dark in the wood and has some cracks in it. But for the price, it's perfect.

I'd also consider a ceramic garden stool.

I second the ceramic garden stool. Otherwise Google "Chairside tables" These are end tables that are long and narrow...space saving with just enough room for a lamp and cup of coffee. You have a small table at the end of your loveseat....maybe get another one to match for your blue chair.

what about a duo nesting table set...you could use the smaller one for a footstool and the taller for your beverage and they would only take up the room of one except when in use.

I like that stool/table a lot Sue! And I wouldn't hesitate to paint or stain it.
The twist type stool, well, I did like it tremendously 3 years ago but since then, I have seen it at Marshall's and nearly every catalog I get, outside of Orvis, so I don't like it anymore.

I'm going to "third" the garden stool :). Every room needs a nice piece of ceramic or pottery!

Just a quick note because I don't have time for more! I can't do a ceramic stool. I have 3 dogs. We USED to have a ceramic stool in the living room. But then a dog ran into it, knocked it over...'nuff said!?

My BIL made me a stump table like the ones at West Elm. It turned out beautifully, but it's VERY heavy. Like 70lbs heavy. There's no way it would work to move it around easily to use the way you would like to. But if it was hollowed out on the inside from underneath....I just thought of that!....then it would work great.

I love that WE wacky little stool too. You could definitely paint it. Is it heavy enough?

Have you thought about a "foot" stool? It would be small enough to fit under the blue chair when not in use. I have one that I use that I tuck away under the chair when I'm not using it and I love it. It's just high enough with my feet flat on it to raise my legs enough to put my back in the right position for reading or just relaxing comfortably. You'll find a few at the beginning of the Overstock search results linked below though these are a bit taller than mine is.

I think a pretty little sewing basket or an old fashioned picnic basket would be perfect to put your drink on.

I'd probably put a fairly flat pillow under my feet, because it doesn't look like you really have much room to add another piece for use as an ottoman.

I like justgotabeme's idea! I love those short little faux leather foot stools!

I love those stumps painted gold or silvery colors. Next Christmas party I throw, there will be several sitting around.

Okay, I don't know how that post appeared again.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the ideas! I was away for a couple of days so now I'll need to peruse all your suggestions.

I will be going to Home Goods sometime this week, and possibly a consignment shop that I like.... stay tuned...

Aren't those just too cute Aktillery? I'll take one of them over an ottoman any day.

Good luck finding the perfect solution Sue.

Love your room Sue! If it were my room, I would have fun going to Goodwill and thrift stores and find a little footstool that is the perfect size and recover the fabric in a fabric of my choice, then it is custom and inexpensive. I see footstools and shops like this all the time and I have done it myself and it is easy peasy. Good luck in your search.

would you consider trimming out the edge of that woven wire table so your feet can be comfy on it?
i love my feet up too, tho around here a big warm dog is a frequent footrest, lol.

I'm not sure what you mean about trimming out the edge...?

I might order that little stool with the fun shape from West Elm because I keep thinking about it. Even if I don't use it here, I can use it anywhere. Meanwhile, still planning on a Home Goods/consignment hunt very soon!

I like the Colby stool the best, for two reasons. It's sturdy, especially if it sits on a rug. If you're going to set a drink on it, you want to make sure it won't tip over.

I also like the color. It goes well with your rocking chair (I have one identical to it!), even if not the same color, and looks good with the reddish leather.

Overall it would be a nice grouping!

I agree with Oakley (please don't faint, oakley! Should have warned you to sit down before reading-ha). I like that Colby stool for all the reasons she mentioned.

    Still love your blue chair!!!

I very rarely shop on eBay, but today I decided to do a quick search for a Stickley or Mission stool, and I found an awesome antique oak mission stool with a ratty upholstered top that I'll replace. It was listed at about 140 and I offered 100 and it was accepted. A bit more than I expected to pay but it was so unique, I had to have it. I may not even use it in this room -- we have Stickley pieces in the living room and dining room/library too, so it could go in any of those rooms. Can't wait til it gets here!

Coming late to this thread, but if the one you ordered doesn't work out, how about searching antique stores for something like this:
