Shout Out to Katieob!

Katie!

I didn't want to further hijack nolamom's faucet thread so I thought I'd start a new one to ask you how your project is coming along? Have you started yet? When are your cabinets coming in? What kind of marble and soapstone did you choose?

Concerning the "ginormous" faucet (hee hee, I always use that word too): it really is huge, but still smaller than some of those springy, commercial style faucets that I had looked at. I think you're going to love it and get used to the size quickly. I've gotten so many compliments on it, from the hardwood floor guy to the neighbors. Think of it as a sculpture adorning your sink. =)

The reveal is still a little way off. The island and backsplash are finally being templated today. Still need to find tile for another part of the b/s. My painter started getting work again from the company that employs him so he can only come on the weekend now. We're working on other parts of the house too (dining room, family room, new deck), so the house will be a construction zone for at least a few more weeks.

Can't wait to hear an update on your progress!

    Hi Erika!

    Thanks for the shout out!

Just checked in to GW and according to a new thread, I now need to worry about my kids striking their heads on the soapstone. Great~ I was just getting over my worry about cooking my ovaries in front of the Sharp microwave drawer (did you ever read that one?)....

I must have missed what you decided on for your island counter? Cannot wait to see it all! There is a lot of anticipation around here regarding your kitchen. Be flattered!

I'm relieved that you're loving the faucet on steroids!

We are getting our rough plumbing & electrical inspection on Friday. If it passes, we're on to insulation & plastering. I'm hoping cabinets come shortly after! So excited! I'm going down to the house in the morning-I'll post a pic tomorrow on this thread -windows & exterior were being finished up today.

We ended up with GM Original Soapstone on the perimeters and a chunky Calacatta for the island. So jealous that you're templating...

I'm hoping all these separate choices come together well for the complete kitchen. Honestly, seeing your photos has helped so much. I'm eagerly awaiting your PS26 as that was definitely a "risky" choice for me...

A few questions since you're actually using your kitchen:

Do you like having runnels? I'm undecided.
How are the icebox latches? Any close up photos? Will they be a p.i.t.a if I use them for all of my uppers? I'm between them & the RH utility latches.

Most importantly, how is your german shepherd doing with all this !!?

    Best,
    Katie

    Katie!

hee hee, let's bubble wrap our kids head to toe, you think? How'd I miss the ovary baking micro drawer thread?!

I'm doing Carrara on my island, just like my window wall, finally made up my mind. I love the runnels, I use them every day, no more dish drainer. I wish I had made them a wee bit longer.

Icebox latches are easy to operate, love how they look.

I have the Restoration Hardware twisty latches on my dining room cabinetry, and I don't think I would have liked them for every day use. Maybe it's because I don't use them a lot, but they're stiff to turn and the itty-bitty knob isn't that comfortable to hold. I feel like I have to really tug them hard to get a door open, maybe my magnets are too strong. Do you have a RH store nearby, maybe you can try them out.

Thanks for asking after Keiko! She's much happier now. She's got her bed back. Before the reno she wasn't allowed upstairs ... she's a huge shedder and I wanted to keep the furballs confined to one floor. But because of all the disruption we let her sleep upstairs to comfort her and now my DD wants her in her bedroom every night. She's spoiled now. =)

I can't wait to see your photos tomorrow! You must be so excited about your cabinets coming soon! I can't wait to see them!

    Hi Erika!

I'm so glad you advocated for the cupboard latches-I really love them. I just want to be practical. And the runnels-I think they might just be worth it for the amount of sippy cups I rinse each day! How long in inches would you suggest the runnels should be?

Here's a photo of the house from this morning... Not the most complete view, but DH took the photo :) The porch wraps around and there is a two car garage behind it. We've still got a ways to go, but it is so exciting to turn down the street and see a house there instead of just dirt!!

    When's the PS26 going in?
Glad to hear Keiko is happier....

Oh my that is just lovely! I'm looking at your photo on my blackberry, is the color dark grey? What type of siding? Will the 3rd floor be finished? I can only imagine how excited you are! What month are thinking for move-in?

The PS26 will go up right after the b/s is done which might be next week.

    Have a great day!

    Hi!

    Thanks for your kind word.

Funny-the color of the siding (it's the Cedar Impressions shingle type) is called "Natural Cedar" and it fluctuates between grey (like this morning) and brownish. Not exactly what I'd pictured, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised.

Third floor will be a finished attic. We're hoping to move in by July. Wishful thinking, we'll see!

What did you decide for a backsplash? I think I'm going with the Horus Art Subways with the crackle glaze (WillowDecor has them). I wish we were even close to the backsplash phase!!

Can't wait to see that hood!
