Not an ugly little kitchen at all. I have oak cabs also that I'm having painted white and I'm also doing glass in all the uppers but 3. I've hired someone to do the work so they tell me glass is not a problem.

It depends on how the door it constructed. I don't think Lowes or HD will do it, but any cabinetmaker or good handyman should be able to handle it.

I think glass will look fine, but keep in mind you'll always be able to see inside those cabinets so keep them neat. Of course you can always install a fogged or rippled glass that will hide the contents or, as someone on this board did, install curtains inside the glass.

I've got the same idea about changing out just one set to glass. I'm interested to see what you do. I remember a post where someone said they routered out the center of their doors. I think they were raised panel, but probably built a lot like yours. Then they just put the glass in, I think. Hopefully, they will see this and explain.

If this is important and you're not a DIY person pay the piper. At some point you need to invest in what you believe is the important stuff. Find another way to get cheap.

I bought what might be as expensive a glass panel as the GW finds--four long and two medium panels in "double satin fiber" which is on both sides of the glass. Cost me $600 with shipping from Bendheim. But it's one of the splurges of the kitchen and it's okay.

Some of the other choices and companies would have cost less including local which allows you to skip the shipping.

Thanks for the help! I'm hoping glass doors will MAKE me keep my cupboard contents looking fab! :) I don't know where I'm going to put the knob on the cupboard doors with glass, since the edge is curvy (if that makes sense). But I need to find out if I can even get glass in there first anyway. I hope I can. I've heard it can open up your kitchen a little and that's what I'm aiming for.

If you don't have handles now, you could just leave them off. Your edges are shaped like picture frames? That would make it hard to put a knob or handle on.

Since you're going to be painting the cabinets, you might think about just replacing all the doors. Get the ones in the style you want with glass, then the rest to match with solid center panels. You could then pick a style that will have the proper edge configuration for handles. A local cabinet maker should be able to do this for you. Or check around online. There are several companies that only make cabinet doors. My BIL built his own cabinets, but bought the doors.

It may or may not be within your budget, but doesn't hurt to ask and check out what's available.

We're in the middle of doing this now. We had the cabinet frames stripped down and bought new doors. They should be finished next week. We decided not to have any glass doors, but they were available from the door company if we wanted to have them. Since you're painting your cabinets, you don't have to worry about the finish matching.
