Girls with Goals. UFO's still live! 08/27 - 09/2

Girls with Goals is going to make a come back!

With people going on vacation during the summer postings are bound to fluctuate.

Post your goals for New Projects, WIP's and UFO's.

Goals set are what we plan to accomplish Monday-Sunday.

I will start a post on Saturday for our goals for the coming week. Next weeks goal setting post is on Saturday 09/01.

I will also start a post on Saturday for our Missions Accomplished. Post how you did on your goals and as always pictures are great. If this didn't make sense let me know.

My goal this week is to remember to start the two posts on Saturday. Just kidding! I am going to finish hand quilting a baby blanket and do the binding. Basically finish the quilt. Of course I will also need to post a picture.

Suellen

Here are some goals that were put on my original post asking what happened to Girls with Goals.

This is a good start for our come back:

I quit posting the threads because there was a lack of posting on them. There were quite a few ppl in the beginning, but it dwindled way down. If you would like to start it again, I still have lots of UFO's to finish:)

My goal is to get 3/4 of my QAYG finished. Possibly working on the blanket stitch on my dresden plate blocks.

My last goal was to start on my bed quilt and have done so. I have about a third of the top done. Right now I am at a stand still because my LQS has run out of the main background fabric and I need 3 more yards.

I am also on the home stretch with my Grandmother's flower garden piecing. I have 4 more flowers to piece and then I need to join them with the rest of the top.

I finished my Happy Scrappy Houses top and decided it would look really great with a picket fence/grass/blue cloudy border, so it stays on the UFO list. I did draft a pattern and get the fabrics, so it's just a matter of sitting at the machine.

I got 6 of the 12 needed butterfly hanky squares done.

Emma's I Spy is at the longarm quilter's

Have a little more than one side of binding yet to complete on Emma's applique crib blanket, should be done today.

Have all the fabric picked and PP patterns sized for my neice's princess pillowcases.

Haven't touched the purple squares, teeshirt or falling leaves quilts since I originally posted.

Making some progress.

I have finished my apple core quilt...just need to do a label.

I've got all my borders on my mystery quilt. That will be ready for the quilt frame next.

I'm working on 'sandwiching' my fishy blocks with just backing for a shower curtain. Ran into trouble last night without a large enough space to do it. I need a queen sized ironing board!!! I think I'm going to try thread painting on this one to help 'quilt' it.

And I've begun a quilting plan for my dresdan plate...need to do some measuring and math to purchase backing.

I plan on going home (back to Fl) in a few weeks so I'll be posting. I have a quilt in the works.....I can't remember if it's as far as needing borders, but I think so. I also want to put the backing on the signature quilt DD used for a guest book at her wedding in 2001!

Wonderful! Sounds like we all have goals and have just been keeping them in our heads.

I finished quilting an aqua and ivory lap quilt from my stash and put the binding on. It just needs to be hand sewn to the back. Also made a baby size rail fence from my stash and quilted that. It also needs the binding finished. A third project is a country wall hanging made from a panel. I am in the process of quilting it right now. I'd like to finish it to donate to my church fair the week after next. I will not post pictures until I'm done with the last stitch. Keeps me honest.

We can reach are goals!

Do you all think that it would be helpful to have a different post for the week that would be
used to post questions or get encouragement?

I sure could use some encouragement. At this time I have one Halloween wall hanging that has been sitting for quite some time now. I'm also in the process of hand quilting a small project. Then there is the sawtooth cats quilt I'm working on. And let's not forget the problem quilt that has been hiding in a bag for two years now.

I think my goals for this week will be to finish the wall hanging top and get a post on here for suggestions on how to fix the problem quilt.

I think one thread would be fine. I finally finished the 62" x 84" Peek-a-Boo that I previously made the focus of my goals and handed it over to the man who ordered it. Glad to see it go. But now the ill daughter of a friend who wants a quilt has picked out that same pattern! She wants fewer colors in the circles--only turquoise, royal blue, and lavender. That will be a change at least; only she has also said that she wants as little red, orange, pink, and yellow as possible in the novelty squares, and *that* is going to be a challenge. Amassing enough squares is always a challenge, but to find 80 or so that are mainly cool colors...I am wondering if it will even look good. Maybe pretty, but not so interesting, if I can even manage that number of different pictures.

I think that my next goal, whatever date you set, will be merely to start on that new Peek-a-Boo.

OK, if she doesn't want all those colors in it, what kind of novelty fabric does she think you are going to find? Novelties usually have lots of different colors in them. Sometimes it can be very trying when ppl want to get so specific. Good luck!

biwako_of_abi Are you looking for fabric like for an I-Spy quilt? If so how big does the novelty print need to be? I can think of at least two in my stash that would probably work and you may have them.

Exactly, Lynette! But of course, these friends know nothing about sewing, let alone quilting. When I got married, I made DH promise to always let me have a cat; this friend (the mother) had her husband promise that she wouldn't be expected to sew! Until she fell ill, she was a marvelous cook, though! I told the father that his daughter could either put up with having more warm colors in the quilt or else--if she insists on mainly cool ones--the pictures will not all be different, and he seemed to understand. But they have not called us since, so I'm not sure which alternative the daughter has chosen. We offer choices so people are more likely to enjoy the gift, but as we all know, that can cause more problems than it solves. Maybe next time I won't ask!

That's awfully nice of you, Suellen. I'll be using 6" squares, and I think I will repeat some of them. I'll email you through your member page about what I might be able to send you in return. Please let me know if you get the email--or if you don't!

Biwako, I'll send you any novelties I have that are cool. I think the quilt will be pretty, but a little more difficult in collecting the fabrics.

Thanks, Suellen, for this thread and the cheerleading.

I have a birthday block and the months of the year swap to finish (probably before I go out of town next week--eek!) and a pillowcase I've promised my son.

My goal got lost in the briar patch somewhere.

I am completing the quilt used for the pictures and lesson being posted in October. It will be pieced by the end of this week and my goal for next week will be to finish up the quilting and binding.

How's that! Two weeks posted at once!

I AM going to get the top to that darned pinwheel quilt done, so I have three weeks to quilt/bind before the baby shower. 2 rows done, three to go. Plus the border, of course.

Goal 2 is to get all my birthday blocks for August redone and mailed. I lost six blocks (3 per group) when someone's red decided to bleed where it hadn't before.

I'm making progress here too. I have all but one piece appliqued onto my wall hanging. That is 42 out of 43 pieces, yipee! Why isn't that one last piece done you may wonder...I don't have the right fabric for it:(

I am at the point that I want this baby blanket done and out of my life so I can move on to something that is fun.
I have to have it done by Tuesday morning. I finished the hand quilting several days ago. I still need to take the pins out, press the wrinkles out, square it up and do the binding. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed thinking there is too much still a lot to do on a project (even if there isnt). When I think of the blanket and all the work still to do it stops me in my tracks. I have been doing anything but work on it. So I am going to only look at part of what I need to do on it instead of the entire blanket. Make it into several smaller projects. All I need to do today is unfold it, just kidding. All I need to do today is take the pins out and press it. I have been talking out loud to, so thank you for listening.
