Are you quilting this weekend? Aug. 30-Sept.2

Are you quilting this long weekend? We have no special plans for Labor Day and I hope to get back into my sewing room. The last 2 weeks have been sort of crazy for me. I have undergone several tests for my heart, including a nuclear treadmill test and a heart cath. It's all good! I have a healthy heart. My DD and her hubby came home last week to go with us for the heart cath and stayed for a couple of days. I have been resting this week and am now back to my regular schedule.
I made another midi bag and have started work on some table runners for a Christmas gift. Are you working on Christmas projects?

I plan to finish quilting my Easy Street and start gathering up all my stuff for retreat.

I'll be gathering for Retreat too.

That might take me all weekend! lol I can't possibly bring enough projects...would hate to run out of something to do!

    Good news Linda.

Nice to see your post this morning and that your tests have been negative for problems. Sounds like you've been run through a wringer and hope things get back to normal for you.

I hope to spend a couple hours today in the sewing room. It just hasn't happened the last couple weeks, so I may need to schedule some time to sew. I'm not above that. :-o

Linda, great news! It must be a load off your mind.

Today I'm working on guild stuff...my term as treasurer is up at the end of the year, and I want to get the job description and procedures updated for the next person. I'm also going to try to do some Quick Books cleanup.

Today I'm also planning to do some PC diagnostics. It's constantly running stuff in the background and is very slow, so I'm gong to try to clean that stuff up, too.

Tomorrow we're going to Lakeland, but Sunday and Monday I plan to be in the sewing room! I'm working on getting a hand applique project ready to take on our trip, and I have some swap blocks to assemble into tops.

Linda, So glad to hear your tests showed a healthy heart and you're able to get back to your normal routine. I'm sure you're still worn out from everything, so take it easy.

Not sure what I'll be working on.....maybe some pillowcases. Maybe the Color Crumbs as I need to get them off the design board ~ it's time to place the various blocks for the last border on the 'Mist' top and the floor is not an option.

Linda glad you got good results from your tests. This past Wednesday an elderly lady in my community gave me all of her old quilt patterns as her daughters did not want any of them. So I spent yesterday and will spend this afternoon continuing to look through all her old quilt pattern books and magazines - it's truly like Christmas getting to look through it all. Some I will keep and some will pass along to other quilting friends. Later this weekend I would like to work on drawing out a pattern to use to make pincushions for my Mom and my M-I-L as part of their Christmas gifts. I hope everyone has a peaceful and fun Labor Day weekend.

    Best to you,
    Sandra

Glad to read your good news Linda!

I will spend most of the weekend in retreat prep...still need to put the sleeve on the challenge quilt and last weekend I was so excited about my retreat project that I started working it, instead of doing the child's quilt that I wanted to do last weekend. So perhaps this weekend I'll focus on the child quilt and keep my retreat project for the retreat...or not :-)

Linda, glad your tests came back with good results. My friend called me last week and told me she had been watching TV and everything started spinning. She was going to drive herself to ER when the spinning eased up and then she started having chest pains.

She was able to call 911 and they told her later her fast reaction saved her life. My lesson learned, even if I am not really sure I will get to ER very fast!

I plan to sort through some fabrics and bake cookies for a girlie get together.

Glad things went well at the DR, Linda...

I can't wait to see pictures from the retreat! Have a blast as I'm sure you will to all who go.

I don't know what I'm doing over the weekend, but will likely continue on a project that I worked on yesterday from 7 AM until midnight last night, only breaking for food and bathroom... Had I Love Lucy on in the background and it was a pleasant day!

I'm making a pillow for a friend and her fiance who just got a house and it's just a housewarming trinket for fun.... He is a photographer and she is crazy about sushi and a champ at making it, so I tried to represent them both....

I had serious problems with the embroidery machine the day before, breaking thread every 5 seconds, breaking 4 needles in 2 minutes.... I realized the problem was that I was using Sukly stikcy stabilizer and my machine doesn't like that even one bit. I was calling the machine some pretty ugly names until I realized it was my fault for using the wrong stuff.... I switched to a non-sticky cut away and all the problems were magically, instantly solved...

It took me an hour to find the blanket stitch on the Nina, and even then I still had to leaf through the book to find it..... I appliqued using heat and bond for the first time ever and it was easy until I wasn't happy with the sushi and had to rip stitches.... still not happy with the sushi and may rip again (I suck at applique, but I'm getting better and learning)...
Ripping is a pain when heat and bond is used.... not that it's fun anyway!

The colored squares are what I'm planning to border the motif with and the brown retro fabric will be the back of the pillow, possibly cut and sewn so the lines run diagonally...

I am sure that is a relief Linda!

I have 3 items entered in my guild show in October and all are in various stages of completion so I will be handquilting all weekend whenever I find myself sitting with some time. Right now I am canning Salsa so have a few minutes while it finishes cooking to catch up here!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

LindaOH, so glad to hear good good things about your health. Sounds like a few scary moments.

Gotta get my birthday block ready and mailed...ASAP! Still working on binding for the gift quilt. Now also need to begin binding on a number of table runners for a Christmas boutique sale of our group.

Well I haven't yet worked on the pincushion project. Today though while I had laundry going and listening to some relaxing Dana Cunningham music started hand-sewing the first row of blocks together for my parents' Card Tricks quilt. I am hoping I can finish a row a day. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Best to you,

No time to quilt because now I am a golfer!
Donna, aka msmeow, told me of a favourite game of hers and now I am addicted.
But I am still working on the x-stitch for GGD. She arrived on Wed. And has been named Charlotte Anne. I hope to get out to Calgary next month to see and hold her.

Theresa, I'm not sure what to say on your new addiction, but be warned it can be habit forming for several years or it can be for lifetime. I had this same addiction, but I was able to kick the habit when diagnosed with arthritis in my right fore finger...ruined my drive capability...not that it was any good to start!!! :-) It's lovely to be on a course on beautiful day with friends or with my DH ...do enjoy the fresh air, the landscaping and avoid the pesky little beaches they put on the courses! Have fun! My finger feels better... I still have my clubs...the weather is getting cooler...may need to play a few
    holes....

Oh my! Once again I have some catching up to do.

Linda - I'm so happy for your good news! I went through lots of testing with a cardiologist two years ago and know it can be terrifying!

Theresa - congrats on the new GGD! 'Charlotte Anne' is a beautiful name.

Rosa - good advice for all of us: if you think you need the emergency room, it's not a good time to drive yourself! If something happens in the car, you've got no one to help you. Call 911.

Robby - Glad to know I'm not the only one here who refers back to the owners manual. I look up things all the time in mine. I also have a collection of seam rippers because they never seem sharp enough... maybe I use them too often?

Sandra - wow! What a nice surprise, right? You'll have a blast with all those patterns. And I'm sure it was great for that quilter to be able to hand off those patterns to someone who appreciates them!

My plans for the long holiday weekend don't involve quilting although I will be spending lots of time getting ready for the Retreat. Yesterday was just a goof around day. Today is laundry and house cleaning day. Tomorrow is packing day.

Said I wasn't going to do any quilting during gardening season. Found out there had to be a reason to escape to the sewing room some mornings with my cuppa until my head was screwed on straight, so worked on a new one a few mintues at a time. This one is still in panels, waiting to be sewn together, sandwiched with batting and backing and quilted. It was a fun and easy pattern called Chinese Lanterns.

Wow! I don't get that much done when I "plan to quilt".
    Looks great!

That looks great! I think a quilt that big screams to be done in sections! And a floral border like you have will camouflage the fact that it was quilted separately.

    Guess you have been busy!

Amazing how much one can get done during that morning "cuppa"...Looks good! Have another cuppa and it will be complete :-)

Thanks gals..........LOL littlehelen. I had another morning cuppa up there yesterday and have most of a dark brown outer border on it. Today I spent some time in the company of Miss Daisy, my little tow-headed great granddaughter. Better than quilting.
