Garage Organization Photos anyone?

We are in the midst of getting quotes on Garage cabinets and organizing racks. Does anyone have something they really, really like and want to show off?

Also, I'm trying to decide how to do an art area for the kids. Hubby is thinking of getting two drafting tables like this:

I was thinking something with more storage. I got one quote with a built in desk and drawers up against the wall but it's too pricey and not moveable. Anyone have an art area in their garage?

Here's my Wall of Wonder. I realize this might not work for everyone...it worked for us to create an ''island'' for our large/gas powered tools. Sadly, we have an older home with a two car garage, so we utilized what existing space we could to make it work. (I won't burden you with the ''Before'' pictures!) It's a Gladiator System, which we found at Lowes/Sears. Although I'd love to get it all behind doors or in a closet, that just wasn't an option for us. The good news is that we can still park one of cars in the garage!

Love your wall of wonder! ;c)

I'll have to check into the Gladiator System! Thanks for sharing!

I don't have the answer to your question, but I thought I'd ask how your garage floor looks. I never gave it a second thought but last year my husband "did" our lower garage floor to look something like a terrazo floor and boy does it look good! He said it only cost between 100-200 dollars for everything. Sorry I don't have the product name right now (he's not home) but I'll see if I can't post a picture on my photobucket. Everyone that came over left saying that they were going to update theirs too!

Thanks neesie! Our builder put down something on our garage floor that didn't hold up well. He is going to re-do it as part of our warranty list. However, we are thinking of just asking for a credit and doing something else ourselves since it didn't work well the first time. We are looking at something like this below. Is it like yours?

Eew, you don't want to see my garage!! Props to you if you can use yours as a "work room"!!

As far as tables go, I would think that you would want something that could be easily cleaned/dusted. I have two of these heavy-duty tables from Costco in my craft room. They are sturdy, adjustable (I keep one counter top height, one at table height), and great quality. Plus, you can move them inside and cover them with table cloths for big parties.

    They come in different lengths:

Some of those prefab organizers are expensive. We knew someone who was having their kitchen remodeled and asked if we could have the old base cabinets and formica countertop. We mounted a 12" (approx) length of countertop and cabinets centered along the back of our garage. Lawnmower and snow thrower go to the right of the countertop against the back of the garage.

Hubby built lots of shelves (high and low) out of scrap lumber he had in areas where their jutting out wouldn't get in the way of getting in and out of cars. Fishing stuff is on one shelf, car care stuff on another, lawn care stuff on another, etc.

Along half of one long wall, hubby put two rows of 2"x 4" wooden strips - one low, one high. Then he put in longish nails (they stick out about 1.5" from the wood strip) along the front of those strips and wrote above the nails in marker (broom, snow shovel, hoe, rake, spade, pruners, power cord etc.) so the equipment always was hung back in its proper spot once you were finished using it. If there wasn't a hole in the implement to fit over a nail, he drilled one in the implement to stick the nail through.

He has a 4 ft. high black tool cabinet in the back of the garage (left side of countertop) with basic tools (we have duplicate tools all over the house because we don't like running down to the depths of the basement every time we want a hammer or screwdriver).

One other helpful feature we added in the past couple of years is a few of those plastic uility cabinets with two front doors that you can get at Home Depot. There are two sizes of them, one about 3 feet high and one about 6 feet high. They're less than $50 each and often go on sale. We are very pleased with them. We have several of those along one long side of the garage (opposite the side that has all the hanging tools). We also have several on our back porch for some of our sporting equipment.

We only have a two car garage, but believe we have done a lot to maximize most of the usable space.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I'm still getting bids but hoping to wrap up something next week.

randita, I wish we were that handy but we just aren't cut out for DYI :c(

lindy, did you post this on the oganizing forum? They have some real experts over there with beautiful organized spaces to show off. Another place to post may be on the building a home forum.

Sorry, I can't offer any advice. My new garage is wall to wall with "stuff" right now!! When I'm ready to organize I will definitely watch my local craigs list as they always have great deals on used kitchen cabinetry and counters. I'm chomping at the bit now because when I see something I want to go buy it, but DH has to keep reminding me we have no where to put anything else right now. As it is clearing out the garage to finish the inside will be a huge job. LOL Just love shifting stuff from one spot to another. Nothing like wasting time.

    Good luck.
