Ack- I cannot decide on a grout color- help?

This just seems like the silliest thing to be stuck on, after all of the more major decisions made, but I'm stuck. I'm so stuck I bought both, hoping inspiration would hit, and I could return one, but if both get opened, it is not a huge loss.

I have two colors to chose between, "moss" and "natural grey". There are several pictures here because of different lighting situations, and the tile has a lot of variability to it. I cut out the color samples and squished them between tiles- hope you can see well enough.

I think I like the moss (green) one better, as it makes the green in the tile pop a bit more, but I'm worried that the green of the grout and wall paint wont match, and I'm worried that the bolder/greener grout might make the pattern appear too busy.

The grey seems more neutral and safe, but is a little blah.....not that I want blah, but I think it would disappear more.

Opinions? Guess I'm not getting much grouting done today......maybe this evening!!!!

Hands down, I like the gray MUCH better.

The green looks bad with the wall color (too yellowy), and I think you'll have alot fewer wall color options as the years go by and you're ready for a change. Also, I think the green grout de-emphasizes those gorgeous green accents instead of setting them off.

I also like the gray much better.

Try mixing a little of the green with the grey to get a color you like. Just be sure to write down the ratio before you mix do the real thing.

Grey is my vote--let those accent tiles "pop" without the distraction of a colored grout.

Normally I'm an advocate of lots of color, but in this case I have to agree that the gray is the way to go. The moss is too yellowy.

I vote gray too. Gray is a cool color and it looks like your tiles are cool. The green appears warm in the light in contrast.

    Great tiles btw!

Definitely the gray. You don't want the grout to standout.

    Another vote for gray!

How about we go in a different direction-- look at sandstone or fawn.

bill- I looked at a few tan shades a few days ago, and they did not work for me, but I went back to look at the ones you suggested. I really appreciate you reminding me to think about going in another direction, and I *almost* changed my mind, but I think I want the grey color to balance out the grey of the floor, the dark grey/green/black of the granite, and the overall cools tones of the room. But youre the man! The two tones you suggested, in a different application, would be stellar. Here's pics for others appreciation of your tiling instinct. I also included "mushroom" and "haystack"

What are you using for the samples of grout? I'll be in your shoes agonizing over tile and grout in two months. Do they have pretend grout to put in and try??

inkycrab- those are just the little samples that you get on cardboard or in a brochure. I cut them out and bent them into the crevices. Small samples of the real thing would be great, but I doubt that is too common. I know that the paper sample may vary a bit form the real thing, but it is as close as I can get, I guess.

I did a small tile project in a weird open cupboard in my hallway to practice tiling, and tonight to practice grouting and test the grout color. I have also heard of people mocking up a few tiles on a board, and grouting that to test the color too, but I think you have to buy a bag of granite- no samples.

Grouting, for me, is NOT the fun part. =P

I'm also thinking about going with a green grout. Can you please repost your photos so I can see them? What brand grout did you use and where did you find it? Thanks.

peaches- I reorganized my photobucket albums, and apparently it messed up all the links! Argh!!!!!

I decided to go with Natural Grey, by Custom, but I still have not gotten the grouting done. Too many things going on......

Here are some of the pics from before, with the little sample pieces of grout. Sorry they are so small!

natural grey, with a few of the tan shades that Bill suggested:

    "Natural grey" and "Moss"
