I think the table with the red chairs is too casual for a formal dining room but would be great in a breakfast room or dining area that is open to a kitchen etc.

What is the decor of the rest of your house? Do you have a pic of your dining room? Is it the only area for dining or do you have a separate eating area off the kitchen?

I prefer the first one; it's fun! But like lishaana said, a lot would depend on your house, style, room and goal. Do you have any pics?

The JCP set is "new" and not a lot of money for a BEAUTIFUL set that is timeless....

The red chairs are "funky"....and I like unusual things. They just don't "grab" me.

While I love the red chairs, I don't care at all for that table. The formal set from JCP is gorgeous...and I usually don't like brand new in dining sets.

I'm in love with the potter barn table. The chairs with it would work, but I think you could make them even better by reupholstering the seat cushions.

Like previously stated, it does depend on the rest of your space.

I don't have a formal dining room, living in a house that is 35 years old, I guess the builder didn't think he should put one in. We have 3 small children so we don't have formal dinners. My space is traditional, with shaker syle cabinets that are cream color on the upper cabinets with a coffee glaze, and the bottom cabinets a light cherry color. I like the look of a rustic table and a crystal chandelier above. I am trying to stay away from the predictable furniture store look, that is what I have always had. I like the unexpected, but I want it to look good.
