Natural Woven Rugs

I love the look of these natural woven rugs and I do see them in all the home decor magazines. However, I seem to remember when they first started to appear that they stain easily. What has your experience been? I'd like to get an area rug for my bedroom -- not too concerned with how soft it is, but I do have a cat that sleeps in the room and he occasionally vomits (sorry!) if he finds a piece of plastic to chew on. He is declawed, though. I would also like to put a stair runner on our main staircase. It gets a lot of use, although I am encouraging my family to take off their shoes once they enter the house, they don't always do so! I'm a bit worried that a sisal rug on the stairs may look dirty quickly. Love the look, though!

They do stain and black rubber shoe soles rub black off onto the fibers. The worst part is the binding on the edges. That seems to get dirty awfully fast and I haven't found a good way to clean it. Next time, I think I will buy the broadloom that looks like sisal/sea grass instead.

I have a seagrass rug under my kitchen table where we eat every single meal. It's been there for 2 years and still looks great. Very easy to clean up. However, I agree that the edge looks dirtier. This is seagrass --- not sisal, which supposedly is more stain repellant. I bought it at Natural Home rugs on sale. Very good experience, and I think others have liked their rugs too on GW.

I got an indoor outdoor rug at crate & barrel that looks natural. We've been happy with it so far.

I also LOVE sisal type rugs -I've always had them in my living room but about 6 mo ago I upgraded to an all wool Turkish rug which is a dream for cleaning up after kitties- the rug was expensive but a true investment that will last forever !

Thank-you for your input! Will probably go with something easy to clean on the stairs because I don't want to have to replace a runner any time soon. But maybe I will try and see if I can find a good deal on jute/wool combo or seagrass area rug that will be easier and less expensive to replace if I become unhappy with it in a couple of years.

We have a few -- in our beach cottage we have several from Overstock, have had them 2 years and they still look great although we don't use the house full time and it is definitely a "no shoes" house. We also had one from Natural Area Rugs at home, and once my two stupid dogs got into a fight, one banged her nose somehow and ended up with a bloody nose ALL over the rug, including the beige edge. DH took the rug outside and actually hosed it down! Figuring we had nothing to lose because the rug was probably ruined. Dried the rug out and it was as good as new!

These were all sea grass, not sisal.

I'm about to order one for the inside of my front door, I think. I can get away with it only because no one uses our front door -- it's not a high traffic area.
