Does the cement not butt up against the house? There is a gap? If it's big enough, would they enter the crawl space that way?

There's a tiny gap in some places. I think the worst thing is that we bought a bunch of deck boards to fix our deck last summer. We only fixed a few boards, and left the rest covered with a tarp right next to the house on the front porch Some of them are 18' long. I guess we might just as well have put a big sign with arrows ........"Mice......enter here!"

Don't forget to leave a few snacks out for them, ok? :-)

they will chew through the caulk.
steel wool works for a little while, but hardware cloth
or flashing is a longer term fix.

plumbing penetrations are another favorite
entry point from under the house.

once the under house entries are sealed...
move to attic...for more areas of entry.

I've been doing some air sealing work, and
the neighborhood is overrun with mice/rats.
I've changed my materials for air sealing from
foam board to flashing...gotta close
those rat superhighways from under the house
to attic off first!
