my island is no where near as big as yours. and i could just get a full slab in. but the fabricator was suggesting some sort of inlay. not my cuppa, but maybe yours?

we had to crane our counters in. will you be able to get the surface into your home and into your kitchen?

will it make all the turns?

Have you looked at Neolith? I'm not sure, but I think it comes in large sections as it has lots of applications...walls, work surfaces, etc. It might be an option.

If you want seamless, your choices are solid surface (corian, etc.) or custom butcher block. The solid surface wouldn't actually be seamless, but the seams can be fabricated to be nearly invisible for the most part.

Get what you love most, and deal with the seam. A good fabricator/installer can minimize those seams. If you are spending that much go with what works best for you and your kitchen and budget.

It isn't just choosing a material that will give you a seamless surface but it's also finding a fabricator who is talented enough to do it and finding a talented installer who can deliver, carry and install a 14' hunk of material that weights who-knows-what.

Stainless steel, or wood? I think SS can come in large sheets, and is probably more durable than wood.

I am sure someone will come forth with more information. You may want to research bookmatched countertops. Here is a link to a 19' long bookmatched granite countertop.

You will need to find two pieces of granite that were adjacent cuts from the same slab. Then they are joined like the pages of a book opened flat, with the joint ends from the same side of the granite. (If that makes any sense!) The patterns formed can be spectacular.

Another options would be one of the new concrete products. Nucrete says it's stainless and crackles and the lightweight Naturecast concrete has a beautiful soft feel to it.

We have stainless countertops and have been very happy with them. I believe our fabricator told us their sheets are 5' x 10', so a single sheet would probably not be an option for your island, but a stainless fabricator should be able to weld and finish the seam so it's invisible. We bought a stainless sink and had it welded in, and there's no visible seam between the sink and the countertop.

You could also try zinc or copper counter. They would be beautiful, but you would have to like a softer counter with a living finish.

My quartz counter is an almost solid, light color. The seam is the width of a hair. They used equipment that some fabricators use that electronically pulls the slabs together tightly. Then it's only a matter of a fabricator with a good eye for color-matching the epoxy for the seam. You also want to get your slabs from the same lot. Lots can be quite different.

Lots cannot be "quite different"..quartz is machine made.

You should do solid surface like Corian which shows no seam. There are some excellent colors to choose from that you may like as well as the quartz you were considering.

Concrete, built in place... Another option and can go with contemporary very well.

I vote for matchbook technique with stone.

We did concrete for our kitchen and large island. We poured in place. Ours we left rustic because it fit our style but concrete can be finished in many different looks. The edge forms we used were the square edge but there were other options available. I love ours. We just got our CO today so haven't "used" them yet but they sealed very nicely and any liquid just beads up.

We have a 19 inch long island with book matched granite. We love it.

Caveats:
1. You need to buy 2 slabs of granite. This increases your cost.

2. You need a great seam for it to look good. We did extensive research and finally had a company come from Baltimore 3+ hours away from us to do our seam.
