Library Mood Board....Thoughts?

Well, it's on to fixing up the library. It's the formal dining room but we don't need one of those so we use it as a library/my office/homework area/kids art project area. Below is my mood board. The wall color is already BM Taos Taupe (which I really like in here). I have the Printer's components (the black base cabinets) from Pottery Barn in the room and the sofette is on order. All other components are my ideas.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you!

Love the color scheme and the modern vibe, but I especially like the word "sofette!" Never heard it before but plan on using it at the first available opportunity....so much more fun than divan, or loveseat :-)

Love the painting it is the tie that binds it all together.

Right up my alley, so of course 2 thumbs up from me.

What about a rug? Any needed?

Geo.. I think the color scheme is fab! In fact, i just settled on a very similar color scheme for my house (really the living room, but it will carry through the house in various ways). I am going with Anjou Pear, Indigo and gray with aquas/various blues here and there. I love that it is organic and fresh-- well, it's my plan that it will be organic and fresh lol.

I like the idea of a cozy rug also-- or do you already have one? There are some great ikats that would look great with your design. I'll be using a natural fiber rug because my room is small and i want to keep it light. I do lust for an ikat or chevron though!

Can't wait to see it pulled together!

Love it! That taupe is exactly what I wanted in the bathroom, but couldn't put my finger on. I ended up too beige.

    What's the floor like?

Ahhh...that green color is the exact color I want for my family room. Loving your color scheme. I'm leaning toward that type of scheme, but in warmer tones. I now have a jumping off point for inspiration. Thanks!

Love it! What a great space you have and as a library it is going to be even better!!!

Can not wait to see your progress!

Is the table going to be big enough?
Books/laptop (when they get to that stage) for homework as well as stuff for art projects can require a lot of spreading-spreading out space.

And what type of chairs to suit the table's height? I love the lines of the chair you pictured, but I wonder if people at the table would sit too low and too far back in it.

(PS: I thought that the art was actually a rug -- oops!)

Pammy, good thoughts, thank you. The table in there right now is 55" across. I'm going to see how it fits in the room before making a decision on table size. I haven't seen my idea table in person yet to see how chairs fit around it. My idea chairs are 19.5" seat height so they should work if they don't sink down too much. I will have to see in person.

I have a feeling that when my kids get older they will do a lot of their homework in their rooms. But we also have the counter island and the dining table if they really need a lot of room to spread out.

And if that painting were a rug, I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Like pammy I'm being a little practical - task lighting? - I don't see any. You have the chandelier and natural lighting from the window but at night you will need task lighting. Pole lights might be the best. Depending on the age of the kids I wouldn't want table lights with their resultant cords across the floor.

For chairs what about a mix of your chosen one and then a couple of hard chairs. Again depending on age of your kids straighter chairs (with a cushion to get it higher if necessary) will be better for writing, computer typing, etc. For fun how about a body ball chair - :).

Yes, lighting is a necessity. I plan to have bookcase lights as well as a lamp or two.

I purchased one of the herringbone chairs and I love it although it is too short to use as a chair for the table. It sinks in too much. I have these chairs already elsewhere in the house and I think I want to use them instead.

And what about this rug? I've eyed it for awhile and maybe this room is the right place for it. I don't know though!

I also like this chevron. But I'm wondering if I need more color.

I bought this rug today. It's 6'7" square and should fit perfectly. And I am going to keep the current table in the space. I thought it might be too big (it's 55" across) but it is actually just right. It needs to be refinished though...I'll add it to the list!

I have the curtains purchased and up and I will post an updated picture after I get the rug in place.

Can't wait to see! Love the rug. Can I ask you - how did you create the mood board?

What color will you do the table?

I created the mood board in MS Word. I just copied and pasted pictures from the web and sent them forward or backward depending on how I wanted it to look. Then I opened the document in paint and saved it as a jpg.\

The table is quartersawn oak from the 1920s so I think I will stain it in a classic craftsman dark brown, without any red tones in it. I want it to stay classic and neutral so I am able to use it in a different setting in the future.

Here is the room with the curtains and rug. We still have to connect the two sides of the room with bookcases that go over the window. I also need to style the bookcases better. My sofette will be here in a couple weeks. And I also need to add task lighting and switch out the current light fixture.

Looks fantastic.Love the table, chairs, rug, and curtains. I have the same sofette and i love it. It's actually pretty comfortable.

Will you put bookcase under the window? The curtains are a little short. If they came in a longer length, i might switch them out.

Thanks for your thoughts! I know about the curtains. :-( They're supposed to be 84" which would go to the floor, but they're not. I might get the longer length but it will depend on where the bookcases are above the window and if I can raise the rod up. Either way, the sofette will go in front of the window so that will block the bottoms of the curtains.

    It looks fantastic!
I wonder it if you might add some additional color, like a coral or orange or red or yellow vase/flowers and pillow? Or maybe lengthen the curtains with a color block.
