Should I carpet these stairs?

Hi all. I haven't posted much lately, but I do enjoy reading about your decorating projects!

I am in the process of remodeling my basement. The stairs to the basement are carpeted with fake Berber carpet, which used to be the floor covering in the basement. The basement floors are now wood and the kitchen, which also opens to the basement stairs are also wood. I would like to keep some sort of carpet on these stairs but the Berber seems out of place. Any ideas of what would look good here?

could you do a runner over the wood?

I thought about a runner, but there isn't any exposed wood on the stairs. Would a runner look right without exposed wood showing on the edges?

I had the same probelm. I painted the stairs the same color as the walls and put a runner down. It looks great. Or so I think LOL Good Luck

Jenny, I'm glad to know someone else has done this. After Bleigh suggested a runner I did some research and found that installing a stair runner is a fairly simple DIY project. This makes me happy since I'm on an extreme budget and happen to be a veteran DIYer. Now to find a runner that fits my champagne taste and beer budget!
