What do you put on your new granite counter tops?

I'm curious what people use for things like fruit bowls, paper towel holders and utensil holders. I had pottery bowls and holders for fruit and untensils that won't look good on our granite. I was thinking a colored glass bowl would be the best for fruit. Does anyone have other ideas? Photos would be great. Any sources for not too expensive glass bowls?

I have a SS wire bowl for fruit.

Funny thing is now that I'm getting my granite redone, my new granite WILL go with my pottery!

Don't know if you have 'Winners' in the US. But here, in Canada, particularly the HomeSense side, carries lots of glass- I bought a beautiful hand-blown glass vase from Italy that went with my old granite- now won't go with the new! :>)
I think Target is similar in the US. You just have to go regularly as the stock turns over quite quickly.

In the foreground is a fruit bowl my husband gave me. I fell in love with it a few weeks earlier but couldn't justify the cost. He remembered this and surprised me with it on Valentine's Day. Should have removed the designer tag before photographing. :-)

We always have a bottle of red wine out which right now sits next to the spice rack in the back corner.

To the left of the cooktop is a small basket with dish towels, fancy wine bottle stoppers and a bag of beans I've been meaning to cook.

Behind the cooktop is a niche which holds two Mate cups I bought in Buenos Aires and an Eskimo Ulu knife.

To the right of the spice rack is a waterfall. Not sure it will stay there indefinitely, but it is nice and soothing to have around.

To the right of the waterfall, blocked by the fridge is a stand-up papertowel holder.

Great question...I can't wait to see more ideas. Does anyone keep their coffee pot out? I would love to see a nice paper towel holder also. Mine doesn't match anymore. Thanks!

O.K. dprisock, here is my picture with the coffee pot in the right corner, and paper towel holder just beside the sink.
Jodi-I love the basket idea for the dishtowels. I hate the way mine look hanging on the oven handle!

Yes, I sure do keep my coffee pot out. I drink coffee every
morning. Why would you not keep it out? Use your kitchen
    and enjoy!

I'll be joining the club on Thursday (granite install). Why can't you have your pottery on the granite? Is it a color mis-match? Jodi, your towel basket is an idea worth stealing, do you mind? I plan on displaying the cookie jar I got from my Grandma's kitchen after she passed away. I don't drink coffee but if I did my pot would be out. My kitchen has the well-lived in look like it or not!

Feel free to steal my dish towel basket idea. Not that I could or would want to stop you from doing so. :-)

The basket was from a gift basket that held a teapot and tea that I bought at Costco last Christmas. Bought three of them for gifts and never gave the third away. I really liked it and the teapot so both stayed on at our house.

The kitchen towels are all clean, waiting to be used. The ones in use are actually draped on the oven door and one of the pulls in front of the sink. My bad. :-)

We just had our template done yesterday so I won't have granite for another 2 weeks or so but I'll probably do something similar to what I've done in the past.

I have a clear glass bowl that I keep lemons and limes in (I use lemons a lot in cooking) I also have a paper towel holder and my my coffee pot out and usually a small potted plant on the sunny part of my counter.

I cannot live without having my cookbook out so I have a decorative plate stand that I use for it (see link below). The majority of my cookbooks are stored over my range in the cupboard and I have to drag a chair over...so instead I've compiled my most frequently used recipes into one book and it sits on the counter.

cpccarolyn - I agree coffee pot should be out. I just have a Coffee Bean Roaster, Grinder and Pot. It's a mess.

But, boy is in good mess and all. LOL

What a beautiful kitchen. I'm so jealous. :-)

Personally, I'm admiring your backsplash. It's a great choice.

    Thanks for the ideas.
Neesie-my old pottery is blue and my granite doesn't have a speck of blue in it. Our granite is black with some rusts and greens. Our cabinets are all done as of Thursday , the granite fabricator's were here wed. so now we're just waiting for the granite to be instaleed!!!
For some reason I have it in my head that the glass bowl-if I could find one with blacks and rusts would look good on the granite.
Jodi-where did you get your fruit bowl? What is it made of?

I was going to go for a clear glassy look for accessories so that our granite is the showstopper. I bought an acrylic pepper mill from Williams Sonoma that will sit beside our cooktop on the granite. These are the 7" versions but I got the 12".

I love the idea of the wire bowl too.
    Great question!!

Shoezoo, the fruit bowl on my kitchen counter is by designer Michael Aram and is called African Pedestal Bowl. You can get it at Saks Fifth Avenue. It is made of blackened aluminum. I've added a link to more info on it below.
